This review is from: StarTech 3.5in Black Multi Port Panel for Front Drive Bay with eSATA
Pros: Supplies 4 front USB ports and audio. I don't have 1394 but I hooked up eSATA in case I ever use it in the future.
Cons: Was not tested at the factory, one USB header had a short between the two data pins. I scraped it off with a small screwdriver and now the port works. One USB housing had a missing pin retainer.
Other Thoughts: Expensive for what you get, seeing you can buy a Rosewill case for just $7 more.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Small size, mounted it on the back of a 20" LCD. Plenty of USB ports, good performance with win7 64 bit. I installed the suggested Crucial M4 64G SSD and Kingston 4G SODIMM. My monitor only goes up to 1600x900 and I was able to get that resolution by turning off the HDMI monitor.
Cons: As others mentioned getting the top cover off is tough. I used an exacto knife to pop one corner and then ran a small flat screwdriver around the seam. I thought for sure the cover was going to break.
For whatever reason the driver thinks there is an HDMI monitor attached even when there isn't and it defaults to cloned displays. This limits the resolution. If you set single monitor mode for the VGA port you can get pretty decent resolution.
Other Thoughts: I may get another one of these as a gift for my son.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Nice looking case.
Cons: Power supply issues after a year. My system would die with no video and no disk activity. The power supply fan was running but the case got very hot. Took the system cover off and had a window fan running 5 feet away. Power supply was cold to the touch and worked fine. Turn off fan and power supply heated up. Thermal runaway?
Other Thoughts: I replaced this with a $60 OCZ power supply and a $30 Rosewill case. I will never buy another Apevia product.READ FULL REVIEW
