This review is from: APRICORN VEL-SOLO-X1 Performance SSD Upgrade Kit for Desktop PCs and MacPro
Pros: Its is PCIe = higher throughput than SATA. Speeds are dependent on what lane you insert the card. 16x lane worked the best. SSD Corsair Force 3 sata III. Original r/w were 180 MB/s - 200 MB/s.....with the card: 209 MB/s - 205
Cons: Nowhere near as advertised on a Mac Pro system.
Other Thoughts: I did not purchase this card to get Sata III speed on a Sata II system. I just needed to add a 5th internal drive to my system. I am currently running two of the same ssd's in Raid 0 and getting 423 MB/s - 400 MB/s. My raid is bootable and everything has been very stable (knock on wood).READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: It Works. Was able to Zero Out (reformat) the drive in 2 hrs! Although it will never compete to be the fastest drive on the market it certainly can do the job I bought it for i.e. primary backup. Very affordable compared to other drives in its category
Cons: It seems to be 2 decibels louder than my other 2 WD blue and green drives.
Other Thoughts: This is my third Western Digital drive for my Mac Pro (intel xeon quad). It came brand new with a 320GB WD caviar Blue, I later purchased the 1TB WD caviar Green (wdc wd10eacs-22d6b0) from NewEgg which is way faster and much quieter than this one. Too bad New Egg doesn't sell those anymore, I was actually looking for that one. Thank Heaven WD has been reliable for me thus far. I am just waiting for WD to launch a 500GB version on the VelociRaptor and for New Egg to stock them.READ FULL REVIEW
