4 out of 5 eggs 8 month update 07/24/2014

This review is from: Harman/Kardon AVR2650 7.1 Channel A/V Receiver

Pros: It's still beautiful! Still sounds great. Still featureful. In fact, I've discovered new power saving features, one of which allows you to set the illuminated ring on the volume knob to go off automatically while idle.

AnywhereNet+ is LOVELY with my TV. I have a Samsung TV which I use to stream music. When I connect to the share and select MUSIC, the TV turns this receiver on using AnywhereNet+ and I'm able to control the volume with the TV remote.

Cons: USB drives are not recognized as sources. Powered or thumb drives; makes no difference. This is an unfortunate design choice but the receiver's a bit old by now, I think.

There are so many features it's a feature jungle in that receiver and navigating/administering them all using the remote or direct interface can be daunting.

The remote, while minimalistic and beautiful sacrifices a little in the way of usability, I think. The on-screen menu is awesome but you have to use your TV to see it. If you're just using the receiver for music you'll be referencing the user's manual. :D

Other Thoughts: Eight months in I have experienced no audio dropout, no overheating, no dead displays or exploding cabinets (j/k).

I have a 4 month old I play music for all day through this receiver - I've never heard it go off or drop audio and it's never overheated on me.

None of the complaints I've seen repeated here can I relate to so I thought I'd update my review.

For the money this is awesome. There are more modern receivers available for the money but none of them are as beautiful, in my opinion. Any modern receiver you can find for this money will be a lot less refined and have had a lot less thought put into its design.

I'm still really happy with my purchase.

Intel 7260HMWDTX1 Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 PCIe plus Bluetooth 4.0 AC1200 Wireless adapters

Pros: AC
mini pcie

Cons: Reliability, weak signal detection.

Other Thoughts: I'm sorry, if 5 is perfect this is not a 4 egg product by any means.

AC signals drop pretty regularly. When they do, I cycle the adapter and they reappear.

Signals appear weaker than they are. The wireless modem is nearby, phones, tablets and the other computer all register 4-5 bar signal strength, even from upstairs - this one is regularly at 2-3. Maddening.

One of the USB3 BT connectors is wired backward but thanks to another reviewer here who included the workaround in his review I was able to get it working. Still, the product is low-quality and not worth the money.

4 out of 5 eggs Beautiful 02/03/2014

This review is from: Harman/Kardon AVR2650 7.1 Channel A/V Receiver

Pros: The receiver is physically beautiful. The volume knob is not a cylindrical prism, but a ring on its side, the interior of which is illuminated white. The power switch in its off state is amber but when on it's white, as well. The remote is also Euro-beautiful.

It sounds lovely through my speakers.

Internet radio is awesome because it's not Pandora! You have a ton of options internationally but you need to listen to them all - see cons.

Cons: Connectivity: No wireless. Must be connected directly to the router with cat5.

The front USB port doesn't support the use of thumb drives for anything other than firmware updates. I hoped to be able to plug a USB drive into that port and play music off it.

Internet radio interface is clunky. As I said, you've got a ton of stations to choose from but you need to go through and listen to them all and that means setting aside MenuTime™. This is fine but if I could [SCAN] international stations I'd be happier.

Other Thoughts: I love this receiver.
