ASUS P8B-X LGA 1155 Intel C202 ATX Intel Xeon E3 Server Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

4 out of 5 eggs Good mobo, but way too touchy regarding 8GB RAM!!! 03/23/2012

This review is from: ASUS P8B-X LGA 1155 Intel C202 ATX Intel Xeon E3 Server Motherboard

Pros: Technically 32GB RAM Capable board with good processor options.

Replaced older AMD Mobo running Windows Server 2008 R2, which the P8B-X runs fine.

Cons: Doesn't accept most 8GB RAM DIMMs, for some reason only tested with a very limited set and doesn't offer a lot of options for current inexpensive memory, even Kingston. Takes a 2x 4GB kit of the series but croaks when provided 2x 8GB (individual) from most similar types. I've tried three (3) different 8GB DIMMs so far, no dice.

BIOS Updates are easy, but don't solve the RAM issues with 8GB DIMMs.

Other Thoughts: ASUS needs to provide a greater range of tested 8GB DIMMS, at more reasonable costs. The days where we are willing to shell out $200 for 8GB DIMM are over.

This review is from: ASUS P8B-C/4L ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1155 Intel C202 DDR3 1600/1333/1066

Pros: Technically 32GB RAM Capable board with good processor options.
PCI and PCI-E slots to cover most needs.
Good network support with 4x 1GB Copper Ethernet

Is running ESX 5 with some additional NICs and works fine. NICs were detected without issue, no apparent driver problems

Cons: Doesn't accept most 8GB RAM DIMMs, for some reason only tested with a very limited set and doesn't offer a lot of options for current inexpensive memory, even Kingston. Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Server Memory Model KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Inexpensive 8GB Kit (2x 4GB) DDR3 10600 Registered ECC CL9 memory

This memory works fine for the ASUS P8B series (e.g. P8B-X or P8B-C/4L)

No issues, no beeps, decent price

Cons: Not available as a 16GB Kit (2x 8GB) that would work with ASUS P8B.
