Pros: -Very feature rich for the price, work pretty well
Cons: MAJOR DESIGN FLAW: someone thought it would be a good idea to put most of the SATA connectors adjacent to the top PCI Express x16 slot, so if your video card is big, it will cover the SATA connectors and it's impossible to add/remove your SATA cables without removing the card. There are two other SATA connectors located further down the board that aren't affected by this but if you want to connect more than 2 things via SATA you might reconsider this board.
I also had a problem where my USB would not start before the OS was loaded making it impossible to get into my BIOS however after clearing my cmos it seems to work ok but it still is a bit finicky.
Pros: -Good performance
-Got it on sale, great price/performance
Cons: -HOT!!! and I mean HOT!!! Expect 40-50 degrees idle and up to 90 at full load. What is the point of the windforce cooler when the temps are nearly the same as the reference model Gigabyte?
-It has a clock problem. It idles at 314Mhz (GPU) and 150Mhz (Memory). Of course these clock rates increase as you do more demanding tasks. HOWEVER, they they literally boost to full power for the slightest task.
Open a browser and a youtube video and it jumps to 947Mhz/1200Mhz. This is bad for longevity as it increases the temps (60 degrees for Youtube videos) and bad for power consumption, It shouldn't take my PC 200 watts/hour to watch youtube.
I'm not sure if this is a driver issue or what. I called up Gigabyte support, got a nice (Taiwanese) woman I could hardly understand who assured me this is normal. Well sorry, I've never had a GPU with such high temps and clock rates for such low level tasks!!
- Gigabyte OC Guru software is a mess. Overly complicated to use, difficult to figure out, and rift with improper English. I have plenty of Taiwanese friends who know perfect English so there is NO reason for a company this size to not have the resources for a proper translation.
-I RMA'd it back to Newegg for a replacement (no refunds) and had basically the same issue.
-Why is it $600 again Newegg? Didn't you get the memo? The litecoin mining craze is dying! This is $400 MSRP, companies like Newegg, A mazon, and Tiger Direct should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage for consumers like they have.
Other Thoughts: The 3 "free" games are nice however most are old and can be purchased for $2-$7 during Steam sales, don't
let that be your deciding factor. AMD rewards used to offer a good game selection, sad to see AMD cheapen out so much.
By contrast, Nvidia is giving out free copies of Watch Dogs when you purchase one of their GPUs.
My honest advise, unless this is on sale for a really good price, go with ASUS, MSI, or Sapphire for a 290.
This review is from: PNY 64GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive (P-FD64GTBOP-GE)
Pros: Good speed, good size, good price, capless design
Cons: Ugly color
Broke, after 5 months of literally NO USE, the drive completely died on me. I got an RMA issued from PNY but they expect YOU to pay to ship it to them, which now is almost the cost of the discount I got.
