When Using SSD's A few things to remember..
Pros: Super fast drive! A real pleasure to use.
Cons: none
Overall Review: I have read many of the reviews on this product and must interject. First, You cannot and should not clone your drive to a SSD. it will not activate the trim by default and the Magnetic drives transfer and place data completely different than SSD's. Second, Why would you ever consider putting Windows XP on an SSD? The OS is 13 years old and doesn't even remotely support these kind of drives natively. Those of you that are having problems in these areas should rethink your choice in hard drives.
Excellent size does not make up for the poor quality
Pros: Huge size. 6TB is more than enough storage for my needs. Fast data transfers (when it works)
Cons: High failure rate. RMA process is painfulIf your drive fails and is unable to be read, theres no way to erase the drive or ensure the company will not retrieve your data.
Overall Review: Purchased this drive in September 2020. It has already failed. From the date if install the drive was emitting a constant "chirp" non stop. I did some research and found that this is a common issue and it is related to the drive being idle. However, the noise is concerning. it had gone for 6 months doing this chirping before finally failing. These drives should last more than 6 months. To be fair Seagate is replacing the drive but their RMA process, or just trying to get the RMA from their website, is a test in patience. Not user friendly at all. Luckily i had the presence of mind to do a backup prior to the failure but don't want to think about what i could have lost. I now have to send my drive back to them with all my data on it and im pretty uncomfortable doing so as i could not access the drive to erase it and im now sending my private information back to a hard drive company without the ability to erase. Bottom line, i will not be purchasing another Seagate unit.
Great Laptop
Pros: Good looking, Fast.
Cons: No DVD drive but not a big deal since everything is online now.
Overall Review: To all the people complaining that there is no serial number for Windows, This is normal. Any laptop with Windows 8 as well as desktops DO NOT come with license keys anymore. It is embedded in the BIOS. If you need to install windows on a new hard drive, Turn off secure boot in the UEFI BIOS and boot from a Windows 8 Disk. It will not ask you for a key as it will find it in the BIOS. Make sure it is a Windows Core DVD not a Pro. Also The 4GB installed on this unit is more than enough to run windows 8 efficiently. Heck 2GB will run it nicely. Why you would want to run Linux on a machine designed for Windows 8 is beyond me..
Pros: Great Price! Sets up easy. For the reviewer who said don't use CD, this is only for Vista and 7 you still need it for XP. Wors great for a replacement adapter for light use.
Cons: Poor bandwidth with any router other than speedbooster router. I am a gamer and Lan game with multiple computers and the ones with this adapter could not handle the bandwidth required for the games. Other than that, the adapter works great for basic use.
