18 HD movies and counting
Pros: HUGE capacity. It completely replaces the often ugly cable box that your cable provider provides. The remote that comes with it is the best one Tivo has produced. It's easy to figure out, even for a grandma (no offense). Cable company remotes are insane to figure out and the menus are sometimes worse, but not for Tivo. Everything is extremely simple to figure out. The Tivo service is a ton better than the DVR service your cable company provides. You can watch Youtube even on your own account, Listen to online radio, download movies (for a fee), view pictures from your computer, and if you have another tivo networked in your home, they automatically see each other, and you can transfer shows from one to the other.
Cons: Price. The price of this is a little steep for what it is. It's also not compatible with Satellite. (not a problem for me anyways) ***It's probably just a problem with mine, but the HDMI audio to my TV is spastic and will cut out sometimes. I've tried several cables, and several HDMI inputs to my tv, so it's the Tivo itself causing the problem. It's bypassable by running separate audio cables to the audio inputs to the tv, but instead, I just ran the optical audio to my receiver, turned off my tv speakers and now i've had no problems since. The price and my audio problem brought this down to four eggs.
Overall Review: My cable company sent someone out who didn't know what they were doing when they installed the CableCARDs into it. The slots are numbered 2 - 1, not 1 - 2 as common sense would have you think. Make sure you have the cablecard installation guide right there for the cable guy.
Don't expect it to be bootable on older machines.
Pros: It's rare to find an NVM-e adapter suited for 1x PCI-E slots. This is about your only choice.
Cons: Slow, but to be expected since it's limited to a 1x PCI-E slot.
Overall Review: Drive is detected once OS loads on a different bootable device and then it works fine as a storage drive, but don't get this expecting it to be a bootable device. It reports itself as a DVD-RAM. It may work on newer motherboards, but if it's newer, then going this route wouldn't be best anyways.
Memory issues - not an overclocker
Pros: Plug and play. This is a good board for someone who just needs to get into a setup with relative ease. Case stickers map the motherboard's main features, which would be very handy for the novice user. GMA 4500 is powerful for what it is. Perfect for HD video watching without having to purchase a video card, but that option is there if needed.
Cons: Not designed with overclocking in mind. The memory dividers are lacking, there are no voltage controls for cpu vcore I got GSKILL 10600 cl9 memory for this board, but it won't detect the 1333mhz SPD settings and won't run them at that speed. It defaults to 1066mhz cl7. Because the board won't automatically set the timings for the ram, I can't use the memory at the 1333mhz they are designed to do. There are no AUTO settings for memory timings in the bios either or theoretically, I could have just set it to 9-9-9-24 and auto on all the others, but auto isn't available. There is also no option to turn off speedstep, so the cpu multi jumps up and down on the board.
Overall Review: I wouldn't recommend this board to anyone who may want to tweak their performance. It just can't do it. If you don't plan to overclock, this will do, but there are other options out there that would probably work better.
Not for an overclocked PCI bus
Pros: Functions as stated in description
Cons: Not plug and play. You have to do some research to get it working if you don't already know what you are doing. I didn't have this problem, but the average joe would be lost and even a self-titled "experienced computer geek" may have an issue with not knowing how to go into computer management to initialize a hard drive.
Overall Review: I bought this to use on an older dual-socket pentium 3 server which is overclocked. The pci bus is running at 44mhz, and this card freaks out and corrupts any data running through it at this speed. I tested this card up to 35mhz pci bus with no problems, but anything past that is a no-go.
Hard to find ethernet driver!!!
Pros: Solid stable board. works great
Cons: Jetway's site doesn't have this board listed on their downloads, so don't lose the driver cd!!!
Overall Review: If you do lose the driver cd, you will have a very difficult time finding the ethernet driver for it. On the jetway site, look up the motherboard model M26GT4-A and download the Atheros LAN driver from there.
move along
Pros: OOH! shiny and sparkly! Fills the gaps and looks pretty until you put the heatsink on.
Cons: What a runny mess. I put a small bit on the cpu, and it started spreading by itself and ran off the edge of the die. Thinking that it was just runny at the beginning of the tube, I squeezed more out, but the consistency was just that... ...consistent. Horrible stuff. Like the guy above said, peanut butter would perform the same, but unlike this stuff, peanut butter would at least stick to the cpu.
Overall Review: I bought some of this stuff locally because I was in a pinch. The guy behind the counter said that "this is the stuff we use on our high-end stuff!" I was seriously skeptical, but I was in a pinch and said what the heck and got it. I know now to go with my instincts and not to trust them again.
