Pros: Great price after rebate, one of the cheapest HD 7870's here on newegg at the time of purchase. Came bundled with a free copy of Far Cry 3. Fan speed is pretty quiet/unobtrusive when idle. The PCB measures just under 8 inches in length, with the fan shroud sticking out another 0.5 to 0.75 inches. Definately one of the shorter length 7870 cards; perfect for smaller cases where video card length can be a factor. Plays BF3 and FC3 with no problems at 1080p with high quality video settings.
Cons: When I received my card it still had the plastic protective film taped to the fan shroud with the tape on the INSIDE of the cooler/shroud. It was a major pain/inconvenience to remove the film as I had to use tweezers to remove the tape.
Other Thoughts: I was worried about other users here receiving cards that were overheating and had to be RMA'ed. I received SKU # 11199-19-20G, apparently one of the more recent SKU's. I've ran furmark for 30 minutes with no issues and load temps were in the high 70's. Gaming for hours on end had no issues of instability. I did replace the stock thermal paste with Ceramique and load temps went down 3-4C. The fan speed ramps up more aggressively once temps approach the high 60's to low 70's C. Make sure you have plenty of case airflow around the video card area.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Solidly built mid-range business notebook. The chassis is reinforced with magnesium for added strength. The aluminum finish on the casing feels solid and should withstand scuffs and abuse. Display hinges feel solid and should provide years of worry free service. The keyboard is of the chicklet variety and feels solid. Keys on the keyboard are slightly concave and not flat. Hardware specs for a business notebook in this price range are great (on sale currently). Easy access to the internal components on the underside of the notebook with a quick release panel is a huge plus (ram upgrades, etc.). Also as a suprise there is a RS-232/DE-9 serial port. There is also a docking port on the bottom. The webcam is of decent/good quality for video calls. Speakers are half-decent, but headphones are still recommended for audiophiles. There is a fingerprint scanner for additional authentication methods as well.
Cons: Typical HP bloatware, you'll spend some time uninstalling unnecessary HP applications. The edge of the palmrest is not beveled/rounded so there might be some very minor/mild discomfort depending on your typing style. Also the DVD drive button is hard to push/activate by feel as it doesn't stick out that much. The status LED's on the front left bezel of the frame are hard to visually look at due to placement and size. The arrow keys on the keyboard are on the small side.
Other Thoughts: With WiFi on and screen brightness reduced to 50% I get around 4-4.5 hours of battery life, not bad at all. Displayport video output is included, but I prefer HDMI (personal preference). On any 15.6" notebook 1366x768 resolution doesn't look that great IMO (unless your blind and/or you are nearsighted). I wish HP would have gone with a 1600x900 resolution display. Overall I'd definately recommend for a solid business notebook that has bang for the buck. As usual Newegg doesn't dissapoint with their fast shipping and low prices.READ FULL REVIEW
