Pros: Used this to connect to two SAS expanders for a total of 36 drives. Installed in a PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot, so it's fast. Worked out of the box with Ubuntu Server 14.04.
Cons: None. Anyone complaining about RAID needs to read the description again.
Other Thoughts: This card helped form the storage of a backups server. With 36 drives in one large RAID10 array (mdadm), the system is very, very fast.
Works well in a Supermicro card. I originally had older HBA's from a different manufacturer installed, but the motherboard didn't agree with them. The LSI worked great.
Pros: Great, reliable server board. Paired with an X3430 and 24GB RAM it's robust and perfect for heavy duty file servers, FreeNAS machines, or other roles. IPMI is fantastic. Obviously works in any enclosure, but installed in a Supermicro chassis it's a great setup.
Cons: On our first one I had a heck of a time figuring out what memory it wanted. Once I found a 24GB set it liked I stuck with that.
Other Thoughts: By this point it's missing some newer things, but that's not always what's needed from a server. Each one we have has been extremely reliable.READ FULL REVIEW
