Great board!

ASRock Fatal1ty X79 Professional LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Fatal1ty X79 Professional LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Plenty of features, everything that 99% of gaming rigs will need. The UEFI is easy to navigate and use. Everything was recognized without issue, no messing around with drivers or firmware updates just to get things to work at all. Comes with plenty of SATA cables and hardware. Finally, it's a very cool looking board. The red is a nice color to go with a black case in my opinion and the board's heatsinks are a unique look. The price also compares favorably to other ASrock and ASUS boards that are probably a little bit overloaded.

Cons: I'm not sure how other LGA2011 boards are (It's a huge socket and heatsink plate assembly) but you may have CPU cooler clearance issues if you're using air cooling. A Noctua NH-D14 will fit if you have the fans facing the back of the case but it will just touch the memory a bit if they have any top heat spreader fins. I also had to use the third PCI-E slot for my video card as the cooler would have touched the back of it. Mounting the cooler to blow bottom to top would not work unless you only had 1 DIMM. Again, I haven't used another LGA2011 board so I can't say if this is unique to this board. I didn't knock an egg off because it is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. I'm still able to overclock my CPU some while keeping temperatures at very safe levels.

Overall Review: This was my first ground up PC build and I had zero issues getting it up and running. The BIOS did its job perfectly and the users manual made connecting the front panel easy. I would definitely go with ASrock again for my next build.

It's an SSD! It's fast!

SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PC256B/WW
SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PC256B/WW

Pros: Not much to review here. It's an SSD and SSDs are fast. I went with the Samsung due to the impressive benchmark numbers and user ratings. The included software was a plus, saving you the trouble of tweaking Windows features to optimize it for an SSD. Pricewise it compares well to the others at this size.

Cons: I only have one of these at the moment and I want more!

Can't beat the price.

NZXT Crafted Series Tempest 410 Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
NZXT Crafted Series Tempest 410 Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I bought this case based on the reviews and price and I'm very happy with the purchase. Lots of options for cooling, plenty of drive bays, tons of room for cable management and plenty of little features that don't catch your eye immediately but together are impressive for a budget case. The top storage area for example is very neat if you mainly use your computer to charge your phone or something like a wearable camera. Lots of tool-less features, only the fans and expansion slots need a phillips screwdriver and of course an SSD if you use one.

Cons: I knocked an egg off for a combination of reason. - The biggest is the removable front fans. I thought the feature was really cool for maintenance and for extra room when working in the case. Unfortunately one of the "cages" does not fully engage the contacts inside the case and does not work unless pressure is applied to the front of it. I tried shimming the contacts on the cage with no luck. I will try slimmer fans next. - One of the expansion slot screws seems to have stripped. It turns but does not back out. If I paint the case at some point I will Dremel the rest of the threads off and try pushing it out before I do. For now I just have 1 screw holding my video card and it's sitting over the stuck one. - The PSU 'tabs' or screwholes were a bit off and it took some coercing to get them to line up with the threads in the PSU. - The pictures show water cooling hole grommets and the case did not ship with any. Very, very minor issue but something I noticed.

Overall Review: Although I gave it a 4 egg rating I am definitely an NZXT fan after this. The price compared to the features makes it a no brainer, unfortunately not all of them have worked perfectly.

Great card at a great price.

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card 100352-2L
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card 100352-2L

Pros: Bought this card to play around with overclocking but everything plays so well without doing so that I haven't gotten around to touching it yet. I'm already happy with the performance and that it came at a price that would have bought me a lesser Nvidia.

Cons: After installing I noticed that GPU temperatures seemed a little bit high so I popped the heatsink and fans off. I found that the thermal paste had been unevenly, leaving one half of the processor with just a very light coverage. After re-applying and checking again temps came down a couple of degrees under load.
