TP-LINK TD-8616 ADSL2+ Modem Up to 24Mbps downstream ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ Standards 1 x RJ11 Port, 1 x RJ45
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: less than 1 day

Pros: I was able to get it to connect to the internet, but not by following the "Please Read Before Proceeding" booklet...
None of the options\wizards mentioned even appear...

Cons: I have to manually re-connect the modem every time I restart my computer....
I am unable to access the modems settings through the address listed on the device...

Other Thoughts: The specs say... "Unlike a dial-up Internet service, a DSL Internet connection is always on so that you do not have to wait to access the Web."

Most everything about the modem is contrary in function, as compared to it's description..

I called TP-Link Support.... They were not helpful, a bit rude, and actually hung up on me...

The Specifications say this is a modem\router combo. Tech Support says it is a PURE MODEM...

Tech. Support says it is NORMAL to not be able to access the modems settings through because it is a MODEM and doesn't have that capability...

Tech Support says it is NORMAL that you have to manually re-connect to the internet every time you restart the machine....

I don't have a clue as to how other reviewers were so fortunate to purchase supposedly the exact same device, and just hook it up and go...

I personally think the modem is defective, but Tech Support says that is NORMAL...

I'm sure Newegg would swap it out for a new one, or a different model... But the shipping would probably be 50% of the purchase price.. Just more money down the tubes...

Even though this modem will do what I purchased it for... an emergency backup device, I'm a VERY unhappy camper, especially after talking to TP-Link's support...

Coboc CY-U3-ABMM-6-BL 6ft SuperSpeed 5Gbps USB 3.0 A Male to B Male Cable,Gold Plated,Blue,M-M

  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Price... they were on sale

Cons: Insulation is too thick. It makes them quite difficult to route.

Orico 6518SUS3-BK USB3.0 & E-SATA SATA HDD Docking Station Enclosure
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: It's quite fast with both USB and eSata. I have reached speeds of 180mbps with this device and USB 3.0...

This is a MUCH better design than the enclosures that require the HDD to stand on it's end, nose down

Cons: After upgrading to Win 8.1 Pro, it quit working with one of my USB 3.0 controllers (Intel). It worked properly with the onboard ASMedia USB 3.0 Controller...

It worked properly on both controllers on the same machine with Win 8 Pro prior to upgrading to 8.1.

Other Thoughts: I actually received a phone call from Hong Kong when I submitted a RMA for my first enclosure because of the mentioned problem...

They suggested a Firmware update might solve the problem, which turned out to be the case... But the Enclosure had already been shipped back to Newegg..

The firmware update didn't go smoothly. When following the instructions, it wouldn't install... I eventually realized that the installer wasn't responding in the fashion the instructions stated, and modified the method I was using accordingly...

The Firmware eventually installed, and the Enclosure works flawlessly... The RMA would have been unnecessary if I had known of the Firmware issue sooner.

For some reason after receiving the email with the link to the Firmware update, I haven't received a response to any more communication attempts...

I don't know if this is a Company issue, or maybe the person I was in contact with left the company..
