This review is from: Pikmin 3 Wii U Games
Pros: If you don't hate real-time strategy games, this game is a good enough reason to own a Wii U! Or if you only hate them because they're always about warfare, then you're in luck here! This game has a delightful story mode with stunning NATIVE 1080P graphics and highly entertaining and engaging gameplay. The versus mode, Bingo Battle, is a greatly improved version of the already highly entertaining versus mode from Pikmin 2.
Cons: The controls have a few issues. The gamepad is well integrated into the gameplay, having a map and allowing you to control multiple characters at once by sending them on a sort of auto-pilot to different areas of the map, but it can be clunky in combat because you use a joystick to target, which can be very difficult when dealing with flying enemies. You can use a Wiimote and nunchuck, which eliminates this problem entirely but then you lose the map! Not enough to lose a star, but worth noting.
The lack of online multiplayer is puzzling, if not unexpected from Nintendo. Worse is the fact that the game has enough characters in it to play up to 5 players, but the most you can play with is 2, and this only in versus or on special challenges. WHY?!?!?!
Other Thoughts: The controls and lack of multiplayer are an annoyance, but not enough to lose a star. This game keeps the whole family entertained as my wife and I compete to see who can complete it first and work together to complete challenges all while the kids watch and tell us what to do.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: ZombiU Wii U Games
Pros: Bad reviews for this game are misguided at best. If you're expecting an FPS, look elsewhere. Certainly it is an FPS in terms of controls, but this is NOT a shooter. You shoot, yes, but not often, as ammo is limited.
This game makes the best use of the Wii U controller out of the gate. The controller itself becomes part of the game as the device that keeps you alive. It has radar, a map, and eventually several more tools that aid your survival. You also use it to go through your inventory, (backpack,) but as the game has no pause button, the TV shows your character, so pay attention lest a zombie come up on you while you're not looking! You also use the controller for a sniper scope, and this works flawlessly!
There's really too much to say. The storytelling is clever, given that you can't tell it from the point of view of the survivor- since they aren't likely to survive the whole game. Instead, you get it from other characters, (whom you almost never see,) and from fully voiced notes or recordings you find from time to time.
Cons: The graphics won't win any awards. Don't get me wrong- they are very good. They're just not any batter than an average PS3 or 360 title. The Wii U is capable of more, but it is a launch title, so I'd cut them some slack. Also, if you don't like dying, you're going to get pretty annoyed. The game isn't terribly difficult to complete- it's just extremely difficult to survive long with any one survivor. Once you've gone through once, though, it does get easier.
Other Thoughts: I absolutely love this game. If you wish survival horror games are as difficult of as scary as the first two Resident Evil titles, this game is definitely for you. If you want some simple run and shoot action, I hear COD Black Ops II for Wii U is actually really good.READ FULL REVIEW
