This review is from: Astro Gaming MixAmp Pro - Wired with Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound
Pros: Perfect 5.1 Surround Reproduction.
Cons: Proprietary Optical Audio Cable (~8' long)
Other Thoughts: Wow.
I found this while searching for a device that would allow me to listen to Blu-ray films through headphones. My current apartment prevents me from running my surround setup at night. Given that this is mainly advertised as a gaming device I did not expect the highest quality sound.
Needless to say it has exceeded all my expectations and then some. The entire sound field is perfectly mixed with great surround simulation. Ran Scott Pilgrim, Drive, Akira, & District 9 to test and every moment sounds FLAWLESS. Dialog is clean and clear, with crystal clear highs, midrange, lows, and great bass. Highly Recommended!
3 things to note.
-The Optical audio cable packaged with it must be used, as it has a unique end to attach to the mixer. Thankfully the cable is relatively long.
-7.1 content seems to mix more heavily in the rear/side, though this may be the PS3 and not the mixer.
-Near the very very low end of the volume, individual channels start lowering at an uneven rate in 5.1 mode.
***Make sure you have a great set of studio headphones to get the most out of it!***
Pros: Wow this thing is fast.
OC'd to 4.0 with Cooler Master Hyper 212. Built a hackintosh for video editing in premiere. Runs at 33c at idle desktop, 57c max during a 20hr 1080p h264 render in Premiere. Which it rips threw in faster than real time.
You will not regret your purchase.
Cons: Are you kidding? Not a one.
Other Thoughts: Man oh man has tech improved in recent years. I definitely think software is more important than hardware nowadays.READ FULL REVIEW
