MSI N640-1GD5/LP GeForce GT 640 1GB 64-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: less than 1 day

Pros: * Inexpensive
* Easy install
* Low profile

Cons: * Fan is VERY loud

This is really not acceptable these days; especially for a low-profile card that might be trying to find its way into a HTPC

Other Thoughts: Really, the fan noise is inexcusable

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 6-Core 2.8GHz Socket AM3 125W Desktop Processor HDT55TFBGRBOX
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: 6 cores for $200 - enough said.

Cons: C'mon AMD - a screaming banshee 70-80mm heastsink fan? Really? Smack the people in your purchasing department for buying such a lousy fan.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you buy yourself another CPU cooler; almost anything will be queiter than the stock one.

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm Ceramic CPU Cooler

4 out of 5 eggs Big, quiet, cheap 06/06/2010

This review is from: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm Ceramic CPU Cooler

Pros: Much quieter than the stock cooler that came with my Phenom II x6 1055T; easily keeps the CPU under 35C at idle

Cons: - Consdierably more difficult to install than the stock cooler was
- Fan grill sticks out over one of the RAM slots; though the bottom part of the guard is deliberatlely "missing"; so it *might* be possible to slide the DIMM into the slot without having to remove the cooler
