ZyXEL PLA401v4KIT HomePlug AV Powerline Wall-plug Adapter (Starter Kit - 2 units) Up to 200Mbps

Pros: Easy setup; basically plug and play. Reliable average transfer speed (at least in my environment) that works if WiFi is intermittent or not available as an option. I'm using this product to stream video from a 1.3MP IP camera to which I cannot run Cat5e and it works perfectly for my needs (5mbps avg).

Cons: Speedtests conducted throughout my house using Netcps averaged about 11mbps (1.45MB/s) which was a little disappointing (minus 1 egg). However, I'm doubtful I could do much better with another powerline product; I believe it's simply a matter of this technology in conjunction with my particular environment. I'm doing more research, but don't believe I'll be able to improve the transfer rate by much.

Other Thoughts: I flashed the firmware on these units with an updated version found on the website using Zyxel's firmware update tool. I found it strange that my units labeled PLA-401 v4 and purchased in 2013 came with 8/2008 firmware installed. After updating, the firmware revision is now 12/2009.

EVGA 8 GeForce 8400 GS DirectX 10 01G-P3-1302-LR 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: This is a good cheap card if you are looking for very basic discrete graphics. It does not require any auxiliary power and its overall power consumption is low. It has HDMI, VGA and DVI connections. The card's idle temp is about 35°C in my setup; ambient room temperature is about 20°C. The card's small size is perfect for tight spaces.

Cons: This card is not really suitable for gaming. If your case and work area is quiet, the fan on this card is loud since it runs at 100% 24/7. There is no way (that I know of) to control the fan speed of this card using software since it lacks a true fan controller. I would look into the passively cooled version of this card if your rig is quiet and you want to keep it that way. Be sure your case has good ventilation however otherwise a passive card may run too hot.

Other Thoughts: For the price, I just wanted a basic card that provided decent connectivity. This card mostly succeeds in those areas, I just wish the fan wasn't so loud. The other components in my PC are very quiet, so that probably accentuates the noise of this card.
