This review is from: BIOSTAR TZ68K+ LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: It was priced well.
Cons: This motherboard currently cannot correctly overclock Ivy Bridge processors. I have a 3570K and the highest I can set the multiplier in BIOS is 38 (it should be 50); it's a known issue with other Z68 motherboards but those manufacturers have promised BIOS updates to fix it, Biostar support hasn't even responded to me.
The on-board LAN doesn't work at all. Windows says the device "cannot start".
The TOverclocker utility does not work with this motherboard. A website that reviewed this motherboard had the same problem; the program starts, and then immediately closes.
Other Thoughts: Even though mine came with a sticker that said "ready for 22nm CPUs" which the Biostar support rep told me meant it had updated BIOS, it did not have updated BIOS. After updating BIOS it supports the 22nm Ivy Bridge CPUs but not the overclocking of them as previously stated.
I hate posting an all negative review but I feel that people should be warned about this motherboard's issues.
Pros: -Solid card with no hardware related issues
-Good performance but I'm sure everyone knows what they are buying prior to reading these reviews (I just didn't want this review to seem all negative)
Cons: -This is not really PowerColor's fault as they use AMD's reference heatsink design, but the heatsink this card comes with is inadequate. With the card in it's bare stock form it hits over 90 C in FurMark. I stopped it at 91 C because it was steadily rising and I didn't want to damage the card. The fan was running at 100% from 80 C onward.
-Fan is noisy on higher speed settings but that's to be expected. I use headphones and it doesn't bother me.
-The drivers are still pretty bad as of this posting. The performance in some games is great, but in other games it's confusingly poor.
Other Thoughts: Spend the extra money and buy one with an upgraded heatsink design, I really wish I had.
My case is an Antec Nine Hundred and it's very well ventilated, free of dust, etc. My house is air conditioned 24/7 and when idle the motherboard temperature sensor is 26-27 C with it barely going above 30 under load.
