HGST Travelstar H2IK10003272SN (0S03563) 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: * Fast
* Price
* Performance

Cons: * Initial rattling sound
* Shipping

Other Thoughts: Decided to upgrade my i7 laptop's hard drive with this drive. Primary reason was price (hard drives are cheaper now+discount from newegg+free shipping+250gb for additional OS) and I needed to try install linux on HP envy dv6 latop preinstalled with win8 with UEFI firmare updated. Kept reading reviews that its hard or not possible thus the challenge.

During cloning of old 750gb drive to 1 TB, noticed that there was some rattling. Some of negative reviews said that the drive died later after several months with some rattling and that was my concern. Rate of transfer was 30Mb/s which was not revealing of true speed because the old drive was 5400 rpm with low cache. All in all, took 7 hours. After installing the other OS, no more rattling. Hopefully that is the end of it. Good to know there's a 3 yr warranty in case it rears its ugly head again. Might do some stress testing later on( near warranty expiration) but for now its working ok and the speeds are better than the old drive. Overall, its a good drive but take note of several negative reviews of the HD failure.

Shipping: Newegg has always been very good with shipping even the eggsaver option. This was close to not meeting the 5-7 days for eggsaver SLA for the first time. It arrived on the 7th day. In my experience, Fedex is the slowest for eggsaver compared to UPS or DHL.

TRENDnet TV-IP551WI 640 x 480 MAX Resolution RJ45 Wireless N Day/Night Internet Camera
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: less than 1 day

Pros: - Video quality is very good at 640x480 for both day and night vision
- Features
- Simple setup
- iphone and ipad support
- Price was the cheapest at newegg (bought 2!!!!)
- Free shipping upgraded for independence day
- Easy setup with uverse modem for dmz viewing

Cons: - Mount is cheap
- Securview pro is very buggy on windows 8 (had to reinstall several times)
- securview on ipad does not work though trendnet's site confirm support for this model. had to use IP cam
- Instructions/Manual is ambigous at times
- activex control does not work (java worked on window 8 and linux)
- Trendnet support is horrible

Other Thoughts: After watching the price dip and doing a risk assessment on whether i should buy this due to security issue posted at #TrendnetExposed (twitter), i decided to go with it and I'm fairly happy with the purchase. The video quality is good compared to some. Had some issue with the focus but was able to resolve it (maybe some complaining about video quality needs to do the focus and they need to do it very slowly). had it setup internally and externally via dmz port forwarding on the uverse modem. If you have a dvr, it'll be a lot simpler. Overall, this a great buy for the price. Hopefully trendnet fixes some bugs with software on the device and for the management. Techsupport thinks all users are stupid.

Thanks Newegg for bumping to faster shipping free of charge!

Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: * Large Capacity HDD
* 7200 RPM
* Price - got it with coupon

Cons: * 2 year limited parts and labor (it used to be 3 yrs)
* Had some issues creating partition(s)
* Different OSes are not ready for this size of HDD

Other Thoughts: Had issues trying to create partitions and formatting this drive. If you search google you'll get all kinds of solutions ie; limited OS support, boot in UEFI, GDP partition, use seagate diskwizard, use EaseUS Partition software, etc. Most of them are fairly complicated and have their drawbacks. The best solution i found so far is to use the latest version of GParted live and boot in either usb or CD.
