Corsair Raptor M40 Black 7 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical 4000 dpi Gaming Mouse
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Great feel and performance for the price. Couple of minor gripes 12/17/2013

This review is from: Corsair Raptor M40 Black 7 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical 4000 dpi Gaming Mouse

Pros: The mouse feels great. The top panel is a soft-touch rubbery material (similar to bitfenix cases), and the sides are a textured plastic which makes for a very satisfying grippy feel even after prolonged use. Great response from the optical laser, and has no issues with connectivity.

As a moderate gamer, I find that the lack of extra buttons is actually rather appealing (as compared to other MMO and RPG mice, even from corsair). The mouse wheel has very satisfying feedback bumps, but does not give off a tactile click like some mice do.

Cons: The DPI-up button seems very unresponsive as another reviewer mentioned. To get it to work, you have to press the button at an angle towards the front of the mouse. Pressing the button straight down or towards yourself (how your finger would naturally press it) does not register the button press, unfortunately. The DPI-down button works totally fine.

Also, there are only 4 DPI settings available: 800, 1600, 3200, and 4000. Would be nice if the DPI could be set to values in between (or smaller locked increments), but I guess it's just a matter of adjusting to one of the four settings for your average use (takes a day or so to fully adjust and get used to).

Also, the DPI settings seem to reset after each reboot, and the mouse reverts back to DPI setting #2. As a user who uses setting #3 (the highest DPI setting), this would be rather annoying if I didnt keep my computer on all the time xD

I do not deem these Cons enough to dock an egg because I understand that the Raptor is Corsair's budget-gaming line up, so having every nifty feature would leave no target market for their Vengeance line up.

Other Thoughts: Got this mouse for $45 from another retailer, but decided to give it a review here anyway, since this is where I come for initial product reviews (followed by hours and hours of youtube video reviews).

Would've been nice if the Corsair logo and the DPI indicator LEDs were RGB so user could change it to their preference, but I guess it's not necessary seeing as this is part of the Raptor line up and not their higher-end Vengeance line. The LED on the Corsair logo can be disabled using their driver software, so I have it turned off because my setup revolves around a green theme :P

Overall, this was a great buy. For the price, I am not aware of any other mice I would suggest over this one. Before this, I had the Razer Mamba 2013 edition (with the 4G sensor) and the Razer Deathadder Black Edition. The left click on the deathadder died after about 3 or 4 months. The Mamba is still working, but causes some issues which are remedied by this mouse. I prefer the feel of the materials on this mice over the other two Razer ones. The Mamba has a very slimy feel to the rubber after prolonged use due to our finger oils. This mouse also solved some connectivity issues I was having with the Mamba (even when using in wired mode).

Long story short, I am using this $45 mouse (price I bought it at) over a ~$120 mouse because it feels a lot better and does not give me problems with connectivity. I know this is all based on preference, but these are my two cents. Even at regular price, I would say this mouse is worth it and you will not be disappointed!

Pros: pretty much plug-and-play for Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. didn't even have to use the driver disk that's included.

works as it should, haven't tested all the way up to 300Mbps, but it looks very promising so far.

Cons: none that i can think of right now. until it blows up, i have no complaints.

Other Thoughts: very discrete, doesnt have no massive antenna + adapter that needs to be externally placed somewhere.

the silver dongle extension it comes with is nice and sturdy. actually impressed with it.

Corsair Obsidian Series 650D (CC650DW-1) Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Mid Tower Case
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: I don't even know where to begin with this case...

- tons of room for virtually ANY hardware you may have, be it a massive cpu cooler or a long graphics card
- very clean and simple exterior, which I like. other cases such as the HAF 922 have too much going on on the outside for my liking
- side-panel window lets me see my beautiful parts. i also have a little hulk figurine sitting on my psu cause my computer has a green theme to it and i figured it'd barely make a difference to my temps
- awesome temps! even at full loads my gpu hits about ~75oC and my cpu <50oC
- cable management is a dream. barely any cables visible.
- removable HDD case allows you to be creative with additional fans (i have two extra 120mm's, one in my three spare 5.25" bays, and one sitting where my top HDD cage used to be. all fastened with zip and twist ties, on foam to reduce vibration (not really necessary)

Cons: the fan controller on my case got fried within 3 weeks, emailed corsair customer support, they asked me where i bought the case and date of purchase, then sent me a free replacement without asking any further questions. best customer experience i've ever had! on top of that, they gave me free EXPRESS shipping as opposed to standard. replacement arrived in two days :)

usb 3.0 passthroughs. i just bought a adapter separately to fix this.

another thing is that they should've punched out the side-panel behind the mobo tray a little, because closing it with all of the cables might make the panel bulge out a bit for some people. I got creative and routed everything flat against the mobo tray with a few extra zip ties so that it closes with ease, but most people are probably too lazy. i'm just stingy like that.

also wish the top vent came with a filter like the front and underside of the psu mount, but whatever. ordered a custom filter from a third party manufacturer :P

Other Thoughts: added two logisys 15" green cathodes, and my case is b-e-a-utiful. even my mom complimented it when she saw it (she's never too thrilled when i buy new things, such as an entire computer).

also, i see that a lot of people want the option to add fans to the side panel. corsair recently added case accessories to their site, so go grab the mesh insert if you want. there are also replacement 200mm fans for the case, and also a solid side panel. no more need to complain. awesome.

last point: for those of you who want the custom filter for the case, here are the dimensions you need to cover the vent (courtesy of some dude on some forum i stumbled upon. just saving you some time to measure or find the dimensions):

I/D: 300mm x 204mm
O/D: 324mm x 228mm

(I/D = inside dimensions, O/D = outside dimensions)
