I made the right choice
Pros: I shopped and followed the specs and prices closely for months. I had had key criteria: It had to be 1)LED 2) 1920X1080 3) .248mm dot pitch (more picture in less space is good.) 4) VESA Mount I went with this one. Tested it out by putting a solid black photo full screen and the black was nice and black. Played the BluRay of the intro to Battlestar Galactica "The Plan" which has a spectacular sequence of scenes in every setting from space and SPFX to indoors to outdoors. Lots of color and lighting. It all Looks great!
Cons: No HDMI was a concession (no biggie, at the moment) may wish it had it in the future. The stand is at an angle and not at all flexible. If you plan on getting more than one, get a stand
Overall Review: I bought 5 (with another on the way) No dead pixels. I also ordered a Monmount LCD 2000 Hex (unfortunately not from New Egg) which will allow me to pose all six on a single poll. Consider a new Apple 27" monitor costs for 2560X1600 on one screen and it costs $1000 With this (six of of these), you can have 5760X2080 with a stand for around $900. I'm a resolution snob and I couldn't be more pleased.
Good Hardware, Dubious Software
Pros: Seem like a solid-enough piece of hardware. Scans at ridiculously high resolution.
Cons: The software is an abomination. It looks and feels like it was programmed using Visual Basic from 1994 for Windows 3.11 and hasn't been updated since. It's really hard to determine "which way is up" when it comes to the way the emulsion side of the slide should be facing in the scanner. Slower than advertised.
Overall Review: Does the job. Not an expensive piece of Hardware. If you need to digitieold fading slides and negatives of yesteryear, this is good enough. Hire somebody to babysit it while it's working though because it is SLOOOOWW. I've only done slide so far, not negatives yet.
This is my second review, downgraded after 2 months
Pros: Great value, I bought it at $350, it's $399 as I write this. I like Acer, and I like this monitor, see my other review for more pros
Cons: The USB disconnects when the monitor goes to sleep so you don't want to plug anything into that needs a persistent connection like memory card readers, flash drives or external sound. When the monitor sleeps, you hear the USB disconnect sound and you hear it come on when it comes on. The other problem is the viewing angle. I use mine in portrait mode. Compared to a (HD) Dell monitor next to it, same size, the viewable angle is has much more consistency. It literally looks like a gradient. I don't recommend this monitor if you need calibrated color for design. It is nice and sharp though.
Meh.
Pros: it's not a bad mouse,
Cons: I'm not a fan of the form factor. The ball is too small and the buttons are not optimally place
Overall Review: I usually buy logitech mice, going back a long time. Everytime I try Kensington, I'm disappointed.
The backpack is AWESOME
Pros: It's got quality construction. Lots of pockets for everything A rain poncho that is in a little zipper pocket on the lumbar, pulls all the way over the pack. It's comfortable and sleek
Cons: None yet.
Overall Review: I bought this because I just got a new Mac and needed a slimmer profile backpack, but one that could hold an SLR camera. When I saw the specs on this, I felt confident, but hoped it would fit everything. It arrived today and I wasn't disappointed. The Macbook pro slide right into it's own compartment. I dispensed with the velcro inserts and just stuffed my camera bag and flash in it's back right into it, it zipped up tight, and fit perfectly with no stretching. Then, I was able to put the ipad in the outside pocket. I had bought Case Logic before and they did not disappointed. I'm so happy with it, I had to write this review
meh.
Pros: it's 'k'
Cons: pleathery, flimsy spine, doesn't stand well in vertical mod.
Overall Review: what do you want for 15 bucks? If I wanted a better one, I should have spend more money. It will suffice.
Slow shipping
I ordred this on Wednesday, mid day eastern time. Several items I ordered on the same order from different vendors shipped that day,. My item (a GoPro Hero 3) was "information sent to fedex" 30 hours later (Thursday) Actually picked up by Fedex on Friday. As of Saturday, it waswas still in California being shipped by ground. This item weighs a few ounces and is not very large. It could have been sent by other means (even for free). I have a problem with ordering something (that costs over $400, taking 54 hours to be picked up. THAT IS LAME. They can do better.
