Pros: We have built two virtual servers using this board. The onboard LSI SAS controller is great, adding 8 SAS OR SATA 6 Gps ports. This brings the total SATA ports up to 16 of which 10 are 6 gps. The quad intel nic is great. All in all so far our experience is very positive with this board and we plan to buy two more.
Cons: Server 2012 was not supported out of the box. You have to open a ticket with SuperMicro and they will send updated bios. I am a little uncomfortable running unreleased bios but so far have had no issues.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G 2.5" 55GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Pros: Purchased two of these to run in RAID 0.
Updated to the latest Intel RST drivers and aligned the partition at 1024.
This is on server 2003 R2, so all required SSD tweaks were applied as well with an SSD tweak tool, way easier than doing it by hand.
ATTO benchmarks showed 540 MB/s + read and write.
Real world benchmarks showed much lower numbers on uncompressible data, but running our software compared to a 7200 RPM WD Black showed a 400% improvement. That was enough to seal the deal, we ordered 12 of them for test servers.
Cons: Cost per GB, but that continues to improve over time.
Other Thoughts: They outperformed six disk SAS arrays on an HP P400 controller, what more can you say about that.READ FULL REVIEW
