1 out of 5 eggs Stay far away from this "refurbished" item 06/04/2014

This review is from: Logitech G105 Keyboard

Pros: None

Cons: Arrived with 8 letter / number keys non-functional. Newegg blacks out the serial number on the item so you can't RMA it to anyone but them.

RMA process is abysmal. Customer rep has no idea how the item is sent and proceeded to ask me repeatedly if I was sure that was how the item was shipped.

Other Thoughts: Save yourself the hassle and order new.

2 out of 5 eggs Poor Quality Control (Updated Review) 07/27/2011

This review is from: NORCO RPC-4224 4U Rackmount Server Case with 24 Hot-Swappable SATA/SAS Drive Bays

Pros: Tons of drives, comparatively low cost. Once you get replacement parts things work as advertised.

Cons: In my prior review I spoke about issues with 4 of the 6 SAS backplanes in the chassis. I was able to get them replaced and have noticed that the 2 remaining SAS backplanes have been wired incorrectly so that the power light and activity lights are reversed. The new backplanes have everything wired correctly and work like they are supposed to. This means all _6_ backplanes had some kind of issue.

Norco does not have a cross-ship RMA process, but will refund UPS ground shipping on your order when you return the defective parts.

Other Thoughts: That I had to lay out 1/2 the value of the case to fix my issue quickly really irks me. This type of thing makes this case a poor choice for enterprise or commercial deployments.

QC can be a problem from time to time, but Norco doesn't have the resources to quickly fix problems if you have them.

I was able to meet my deadline and get this thing online because I live somewhat close to Norco. If you don't you will either be paying shipping costs or you will miss your deadline.

I would like to see Norco find a way to step up when issues arise and take care of their customers when they have these types of issues.

2 out of 5 eggs I can only use 8 drives of 24 right now 07/18/2011

This review is from: NORCO RPC-4224 4U Rackmount Server Case with 24 Hot-Swappable SATA/SAS Drive Bays

Pros: Immense number of drives for a consumer-level enclosure. Well thought-out design. Support for multiple redundant power supplies.

Cons: Of the 6 SAS 3505 interface boards that communicate between the SAS / SATA controller and the drives, 4 of them were bad. That means I can use only 1/3 of the drives in this case. Each one of them shows one drive missing. I have spent hours troubleshooting something that should have been caught at the factory. I have requested replacements from Norco Service. I will update my review with how long everything took.

The sides of the drive trays are made of plastic. Just from my testing, the trays are already starting to show signs of wear. The plastic is beginning to shave off from the drives. This means easier sliding, but creates a mess and makes me wonder how long these drive trays have left.

No documentation. No manual, no information at all. You are left to your own devices. Not for beginners.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this thing if you don't have a large location to put it in- it's immense. Longer than any other rack-mount case I have.

Some are complaining about the noise of the drives for home use and while I agree they are loud, they move lots of air. Something required for this many drives.

I wish Norco had invested in some temperature-sensitive fans. That might have allowed for lowered fan RPMs.
