Team Group PD200 128GB 1.8
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Small and fast. I get great transfer speeds over USB 3.0 and have seen it go above advertised speeds.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I picked this up on sale for about $90. Got it for a project that didn't quite work out. Used it at work a few times to do some Clonezilla images and it performed noticeably faster than the mechanical USB 3.0 drive I had. It would make a great Linux Live boot disk for systems that can boot from USB 3.0.

5 out of 5 eggs Not just for laptops! 08/25/2013

This review is from: Cooler Master NotePal CMC3 - Laptop Cooling Pad with 200 mm Silent Fan

Pros: Great air flow and quiet. I can't even hear it while standing next to it. This is due to the 200mm fan. Larger fans can move more air while spinning slower than smaller fans.

Cons: The fan is completely exposed on the bottom. Not really an issue, just an fyi for anyone who might see this as an issue.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to keep my router running cool. I have an Asus RT-N66U and it gets quite warm. The cooler is powered by one of the USB ports on the router and does a great job keeping temps down without introducing any noise. I'm sure it works well for laptops too.

HP ENVY 4-1050ca (B5T11UAR#ABL) Intel Core i5 3317U (1.70GHz) 8GB Memory 500GB HDD 32GB SSD 14

  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Light weight, thinner than my HP netbook and very responsive. The mSATA is great when used as a cache (need to use the Intel software to do this in Windows). CPU supports AES and the turbo core feature is great. Haven't notice it hang once.

Cons: International keyboard, left shift key is short, enter key is shaped differently. Did't quite notice this from the pictures. There is a US model of this available but didn't have 8 GB of RAM. Ordered a US keyboard to replace it.

Not going to dock an egg for that. I should have paid better attention.

Other Thoughts: In hindsight I should have went with the US model and just upgraded the RAM. I used the mSATA cache setup for a little bit and it made a noticeable difference in performance when using the stock mechanical drive. Got a 128 GB Samsung SSD as I intended to dual boot Windows and Linux. Windows 7 is running on the 128 GB SSD and Linux Mint is on the 32 GB mSATA. Replacing the mechanical drive also made the palm rest, above the HDD, cooler. Didn't see a way to make the mSATA the first boot device but that is not a big problem when using GRUB or another boot loader.
