Pros: Work great as advertised
Cons: Have to upgrade the firmware before using even for the first time, this is a bit of a hassle and carries some risk for lower skilled users.
Realistically the cards should work without fail out of box, being forced to update the card just to get it to work is hoakey in my opinion.
Also, the instructions to update the firmware properly is a bit WEAK considering the URGENT need to update the firmware properly in the first place; they should consider redoing some documentation on this card.
Other Thoughts: Seems fast and works great in my raid 10
I'm happy, the useless DVD included could be omitted if you are being forced to download new drivers/firmware anyhow.
Pros: Versatile, Nice working hot swap bays, nice cooling system, nice two button lid instead of screws to hold the lids on, comes with p/s and cable management is decent enough.
Case is Satisfactorily modified by snipping down motherboard mounts that are not going to be used to use the case safely with non-supermicro (GASP) motherboards.
Cons: Motherboard stand off mounts are non-standard and for non-supermicro boards have to be snipped off. (Should be snipped off to prevent arcing / touching on non-supermicro boards)
Other Thoughts: Wish the case actually didnt have the supermicro screw mount standoffs in the first place so non-supermicro motherboards would natively fit without having to modify the cases. OH WELL. Life goes on, they work great for me... i have multiple units and not at all discouraged by such a thing.
These units are great imho because they come with basically everything you really need and fit our OEM re-purposing very well for the money, its a better case for a bit more money and that quality more than makes up for its shortcomings with the mount standoffs.
I just wish i could find a vendor for glass paper cheap enough to pad the bottom layer under the motherboards for an extra layer of safety.
