So far great, and very cool running drives.
Pros: Runs 5c cooler then my EXOS & IronWolf Helium filled drives Runs 10-15c cooler then my non helium drives Great performance with a preclear of over 260MBs peak, 210MBs half way through and I think it bottomed out at 180MBs
Cons: Nothing so far
Overall Review: I bought two of these to add to my unraid server and so far I've been really surprised by how cool they run. Seriously 5-10c cooler then my other drives. Enough so just looking at temps you know 100% which are the Toshibas and I have a mix of EXOs, IronWolfs, IronWolf Pros, and some Computes. I haven't had them long enough to be able to give a serious critique of them but the performance is great. I'll update this if anything changes, but both drives completed preclears (complete read, write and read of the drive) and seem pretty solid so far. From just a perspective of temps, I'm seriously thinking about just getting Toshibas going forward. That could make a decent difference in case temps going forward. edit: Just over a month in and after I purchased two more. I want to reiterate how huge the temp differences are. I have an array of 19 disks now and I can't help but imagine how much cooler my computer would run with all Toshiba disks. I'd be really curious to compare this to some other helium drives other then Exos.
Great case EXCEPT if you have a lot of HD's
Pros: Great looking Well thought out design Amazing build quality super quiet
Cons: If you have a lot of hard drives expect an annoying noise from the drive bays (see other thoughts) Heavy
Overall Review: So I love this case. This is the second one I've bought and I'm still amazed by the level of detail in this case. It's just so brilliantly built. That being said it has a huge fault, when you have a lot of hard drives in this case you get some harmonic resonance when they're all running that makes this super annoying buzzing noise. I thought in my first case that it was just a defect in that case but this one has the same issue. If you're not planning on filling the drives then go for it. If you are planning on filling all the drives maybe hold off, or do what I've done in both cases and build some cardboard wedges to press into where the drive cages connect to the rest of the case. That helps a lot. Anyway, amazing case, just beware of this one defect.
Solid drive but for the price there are good enterprise options
Pros: - Warranty is pretty fantastic - Great speed - Not too loud
Cons: - Price starts to push up against enterprise options which offer better features for what I do
Overall Review: This is a solid drive with a good warranty but I've started buying enterprise drives because they offer better builds and great speed for about the same price. There is nothing wrong with this drive and I might be missing some tuning that this drive has over the enterprise options but on paper this looks a little weaker. That being said, again there is nothing I can really fault this drive for. It's really good.
Purchased for my unraid server, works great
Pros: - Estimated 40-50 hours of backup - Works great with unraid (just about plug and play) - Great display - Nice form factor
Cons: - A bit loud
Overall Review: I get a few power outages a year and I wanted something that could power my unraid server so it could at least shutdown safely. I was suprised running it on battery that it really seems to last for a while. My server is a Ryzen 2600 with 11 drives, two GPUs (1060 & 950), 32gbs of ram, an HBA card and an nvme card. It handles basic video transcoding as well as an always on Windows VM so while it isn't the highest end hardware it still has a bit drawing on it. With a couple transcodes it pulls about 160-180w and it estimates that it could handle that load for 40-55 minutes which is fantastic. Working with unraid was super easy, I just plugged the usb cable in and selected the manufacturer in unraids ups section and everything just worked, so super easy setup. Overall this thing is fantastic. I plan on buying a second for my modem/router.
Works great in my Unraid system
Pros: - Decently quick - Quiet - Great price point
Overall Review: I bought these for my unraid build. I wanted something to replace my old shucking drives from external enclosures as I wanted an actual warranty. I've been surprised by the performance, perfectly capable for media storage/access and for the price it's really hard to beat these drives. I've only been running them for a few weeks but I did a pre-clear on the 2 drives I got and they both seem really happy. Definitely going this route instead of shucking drives from now on.
Fast and easy to install
Pros: Bought it to hold my main Windows 10 VM install and so far no issues. Easy to install and looks great
Overall Review: No real complaints, worked great in unraid for holding my main Windows 10 VM, super fast and so far no issues.
