This review is from: Ergotron 45-241-026 LX Desk Mount LCD Arm
Pros: For the most part, it seems to be well made. Well packaged.
Was easy to assemble, and the instructions for assembly were reasonably easy to follow.
In use, it looks very professional.
Some of the movements are a bit on the stiff side, even with adustments made to the various adjusting screws that increase/decrease the tension on some of the movements. Otherwise seems to work fine and appears to be good value for money. Hopefully it'll hold up over time, etc.
Cons: Other than the vertical post being too short...none (see Other thoughts)...
Other Thoughts: I bought two of these items with the intention of mounting one monitor above the other. Turns out I can't do it because the vertical mounting posts are too short.
I didn't realize until after I purchased this model but there is a dual model available, with a longer vertical post, for locating one monitor above another.
Since I already owned two LX's with short posts I contacted Ergotron and asked if I could purchase just the longer post, or maybe the post with clamp base. In both cases I was told they are not available as separate items.
This is a concern because it appears there are not many replacement parts available should something happen to the units I have. If something breaks it appears I would have to purchase a whole new unit.
Not being able to buy replacement parts never endears me to a manufacturers product, long-term, so I'm inclined to look at the competition for any more mounting arms I need to purchase.
For this reason I gave only four stars.
This review is from: Avanquest Partition Commander 10
Pros: Unfortunately I'm not able to find out. See cons...
Cons: The only way to activate this software (according to the manufacturer) is over the Internet. If, like me, you have a PC that is not connected to the Internet, then you cannot activate the software. Without activation the software doesn't work. You can almost do things...but not quite. The software will let you preview your changes before you make them permanent (good idea if it works). However, when you select to make your changes permanent you are told the changes cannot be made until the software is activated. Since I cannot activate my software...the software is (as far as I'm concerned) useless!
Other Thoughts: The manufacturer told me they "haven't yet got a workaround for activation on a PC that is not connected to the Internet." This sort of disclaimer needs to be on the package in plain sight.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: DETTO Recover My Files
Pros: Seems to works as advertised. Even as I write this the software has recovered many lost files from a 500GB hard drive that became corrupted and renedered unreadable by my other usual methods.
Big benefit of this software is that you can demo it by downloading a trial version to see if the software can find any files on the suspect drive(s). If files are found they can be recovered, according to the manufacturer. So I was able to verify that the software would work before I bought it. Installation was super quick and without issue.
Cons: The help files were unreadable on the trial version. Had to purchase the full version to be able to read the Help files. This is a nuisance because the help files are what contain the instructions for proper installation, etc.
Other Thoughts: I would have given an overall rating of five eggs if the help files were readable with the trial version...READ FULL REVIEW
