Great SFF PC case
Pros: +Superb build quality. +Beautiful interior and exterior. Nothing flashy, just clean and functional. +Small footprint, but more than enough space for powerful components. +A 9.5 inch video card fits easily. A 10.5 inch card fits, but it would be very tight. +Lots of space to hide cables. Either in the 5.25 inch bays or the 3.5 inch bays. I've never had a cleaner looking interior. +Removeable motherboard tray was easy to work. Slide the tray in part way, finish the connections, then push it all together. +Being aluminum, this machine is a lightweight. When I was done building, it weighed just 16 lbs.
Cons: -Modular power supply fits, but spacing is tight. It's very difficult to attach/remove connectors without sliding out the power supply. -The mounting points for the power supply are not thumb screws. The standard ATX screws scuff up the finish. Everything else in the back is thumb screws - why not this? I'll need to find replacements. -The side panel screws are small and numerous - 6 on each side. They are small and easy to lose, but there are no extras. -Everything picks up fingerprints, inside and outside. It's hard to keep clean. -Make sure there is room to open the sideways optical drives. If only companies still made slot loading drives... -Power and HDD LEDs are bright, which makes for a distracting HTPC.
Overall Review: In order to organize the cabling, I needed to do a lot of re-routing of the fan/USB/audio/firewire cables. 10 inch SATA cables were long enough to connect to my mobo. Less clutter is always better. This took a long time to build. I've been building my own machines for 10 years. I'm pretty fast, and this still took me most of the day just to be ready to power up for the first time. With such a small space, a lot of planning was necessary to get everything together without backtracking in my assembly process. This was a slow, deliberate, but very enjoyable build. Here's what I ended with: OCZ 550W modular PSU Asus M3N78-VM microATX board Athlon X2 5000 Black Edition OEM AMD heatsink MSI 8800GTS 512 4GB RAM LiteOn Blu Ray drive Seagate SATA HDD
good deal when on sale
Pros: +detachable microphone +decent sound +good deal when on sale +carrying case +comfortable, at first
Cons: -not so comfortable after a couple hours (maybe it just needs to break in) -silly Fata1ty branding
Overall Review: Got it on sale during a shell shocker. I don't think it's worth full price, but on sale with free shipping it was hard to pass up.
Affordable solution
Pros: +good price +free shipping at the time +works great
Cons: None
Overall Review: Remember to remove the dust caps from the ends of the cable
great USB flash drive
Pros: +Fast +compact +rugged aluminum chassis +cap now fits both ways (it used to be keyed in one orientation)
Cons: -still no tether for the cap -may be compact, but it's far from the smallest -gets hot, but only because the aluminum body makes a good heatsink
Overall Review: With a tremendous number of USB flash drive choices out there, this one is probably the best compromise. I can't say it's the fastest of all, but it's fastest I've ever used. This is my second OCZ Rally, but only because I lost my previous one. I'll keep using this model as long as it's around.
good, cheap, and fast
Pros: +great price per GB +fast transfer rates +relatively quiet +5 year warranty
Cons: -not quite as fast as my two old seagate drives in Raid 0 -gets quite hot; make sure there's some sort of active cooling for the drives in your case
Overall Review: This is my first Western Digital drive in probably 5 years. There's no faster 7200 rpm drives out there. This makes a great drive for me to store all kinds of pictures, videos, music. I still prefer RAID 0 for the extra speed. Perhaps these should be sold in pairs.
simple, effective product
Pros: +turns 1 6-pin PCI-E power connector into two +it works
Cons: -None, as long as it continues to work
Overall Review: Each cable is 6 inches long. The jacket around the wires makes for a clean appearance, but also reduces flexibility. If my review of a 3 pin fan adapter shows up for this product I apologize. I clicked on the wrong item and didn't realize it until after I hit submit.
