First SSD - wow.

Manufacturer Recertified OCZ Vertex 2 2.5" 100GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-2VTX100G

Pros: This is my first SSD, picked it up here at NewEgg during their promotion last week, slipped it into my Latitude 630 and installed Win8.1 preview. Wow. Who needs hibernation mode anymore when you can boot cold this fast?! And this is just a SATA2. hee. Best $50 i've spent in a long time.

Cons: laptop running a little hotter than before. No more goldbricking waiting for latency.

Good drive, until....

Fantom Drives G-Force 1TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive GF1000EU

Pros: Great case, fast performer.

Cons: She died after only 4 months of service...

Overall Review: I had this connected to my Tivo3, and it worked great until last night. The drives NOT formatted to work with a Tivo but the conversion isn't difficult if you're handy with PC hardware. I did notice the it thrashed alot, especially during HD recordings. Probably needs a larger cache. Anyway, I wore the poor thing out apparently.

Nice basic printer

Canon PIXMA iP series iP2702 Black: Approx. 7.0 ipm Black Print Speed 4800 x 1200 dpi Color Print Quality USB InkJet Photo Color Printer w/ 5 sheets Photo Paper

Pros: Small size, nice clean text, reasonably good photo printing, reasonably fast, inexpensive, ink is reasonably priced.

Cons: Ink doesn't last as long as I'd like. This unit has no paper catch tray,

Overall Review: This is a basic inkjet printer, no fancy feature sets. Text printing is wonderful, photo printing is pretty good for such a cheap printer. My only real gripe is the lack of a paper catch (a tray or a cheap plastic catch, something!) but if you set this on a roomy table it won't matter. This is for basic home use only, not for high production. Can't really go wrong when the printer is under $30 and prints color.

Handsome Drive for my TIVO

Fantom Drives G-Force 1TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive GF1000EU
Fantom Drives G-Force 1TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive GF1000EU

Pros: Attractive case. Drive runs fairly quietly (but then my wife says I'm half deaf; however she doesn't think it's noisy either!).

Cons: The supplied USB cable is minimal (short and not well shielded). You must purchase your own eSATA cable.

Overall Review: The drive in the package I received is an Hitachi. I purchased it to expand my Tivo Series 3HD. It does NOT work with the Tivo out of the package (it's formatted NTFS) but it can be converted to MFS format with the proper software. Unfortunately this requires opening your Tivo and removing it's internal drive (temporarily). Buy the DVR rated drives if you're not tech savvy. Anyway I got my drive reformatted quickly and it's hauling down HD content like crazy. Hopefully this will hold up for a long while. I'll post again if it fails (or if they stop selling this model, or if Tivo decides to remotely sabotage my unit). Very happy thusfar.

GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Bought this board with X2 5600 (and the OEM supplied fan, for the benefit of a previous poster) and it runs beautifully. Graphics work great, too (running XP SP3 but will test Vista eventually). With SATA only drives and plenty of RAM this is the smoothest running board I've yet owned.

Cons: Bought this with the recommended GSKILL F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ 2GIG memory, but the system will not recognize both sticks. Was forced to install a single stick with some slower RAM I had on hand and it runs. The memory itself doesn't appear to be at fault since it runs in a Dell I use at work, and both work.

Overall Review: I put this board in a MicroFLY case (a good looking if not terribly well built case) and everything works and fits well. I'd buy another one of these but will go with memory recommended from the mfg.

First LCD replacement

Westinghouse 19" SXGA LCD Monitor 5 ms 1280 x 1024 D-Sub, DVI-D L1928NV
Westinghouse 19" SXGA LCD Monitor 5 ms 1280 x 1024 D-Sub, DVI-D L1928NV

Pros: Bought this as my first CRT replacement monitor. Very happy with the image quality, but it helps to have a decent video card and a digital DVI cable. I haven't experienced lost pixels nor flickering or fading problems as some other posts. Images are crisp and clean, and were even sharper than the CRT's this replaced.

Cons: As others reported, the speakers are tinny sounding, but they *are* utilitarian. Fine for the office. I wish the ports (dsub and DVI) weren't quite so close together; not that you can use them simultaneously, but I occasionally have to switch back to the VGA cable when fixing other computers, and it's cramped. Minor issue.

Overall Review: I admit I bought this because it was the cheapest monitor in its class. But I have not been disappointed with it. Image quality compares favorably with the more expensive LCD's I use at work. I will probably buy a couple more of these soon and rid my house of CRT's!
