This review is from: ASRock G41C-GS LGA 775 Intel G41 + ICH7 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Simple board.Has overclocking abilities. Had a spare Intel Xeon laying around. Socket 775 with a successful LGA 771 mod! Running an Intel Xeon 5440. Seems to be running just fine. Has both DDR2 and DDR3 support. No big problems with it so far.
My system specs:
Intel Xeon 5440 lga 771 mod
4gb( 2x2gb) of mysterious DDR2 1066 mhz ram I had laying around
500gb seagate hdd
PNY Gtx650 2gb edition
Runs Crysis 1 And 2 on high/very high
Splinter Cell Blacklist Maxed
Blade and Soul Maxed
Phantasy Star Online 2 Maxed
Aura Kingdom Maxed
Left For Dead 2 Maxed
And have yet to try Titanfall as server's are down.
Cons: Only accepts some ram unfortunately. Seeing that it has support for up to 8gb of ddr3 ram oc 1333mhz, I was quite disappointed to find that I'm not the only one having this problem. In hopes of upgrading my ram, I went out and purchased 8gb of Hyperx Blu 1333mhz ram. ( 2x4gb). Set the jumper as the manual states, made sure the processor is compatible and inserted the new ram. No video on boot when HyperX replaced the ddr2 ram. Boots fine with my mystery ram however. Maybe I'm missing a step? Read in another review that the graphics card must be removed first before installing any new ram. So I plan to try this as soon as I finish testing if the ram I received is defective first. Don't see the point in making a motherboard that's only capable of handling certain types of Ram but marketing it as a superfast overcloking mobo (Supports ASRock XFast RAM, XFast LAN, XFast USB Technologies) A very Bitter-sweet motherboard.
Will update on ram progress soon.
Other Thoughts: For a cheap board, Its not bad at all, but it hasn't exactly amazed me in the time I've owned it. Could have gotten something better for the price. But I bought this in hopes of reviving spare computer parts, which it did.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Small, Light, Thin, Portable. HDMI out, GT540m gpu. Cool Power button, and usb's are placed very well. GAMES LIKE A CHARM. Specs are high for price. cheap. nice screen. not alot of crapware. Webcam is very nice :). smooth design. Renders videos fast with vegas 10, runs cubase nicely. loads hd videos on youtube faster than normal.nice big harddrive. Full Keyboard.
Cons: only 3 Usb's. im a dj, i need more!!( good thing i got a usb hub with this laptop) tends to get a bit hot when gaming( not a BIG problem now though, i have a laptop cooler under it now.) No volume shortcuts or playback buttons except with FN thingy.
Other Thoughts: At first, i was deciding between this model and a different model with an AMD Phenom 2 Quad and a radeon hd 6650. I almost bought the oher model until i remembered that AMD processors tend to get a bit hot, and the 540m out performed the 6650 in the reviews i read online. AND this laptop was cheaper as well. I was planning to use this laptop for EVERYTHING i do.( Gaming, Browsing, Video editing with vegas, Studio recording with Cubase, And Djing.) this laptop is serving me VERY well. Played crysis and it runs on HIGH SMoothly, but lags on very high. Editing and recording on this is remarkably FAST on the laptop. AND i get the chance to carry it around with me. It also runs Serato VERY well. NO lagging with the effects, and loads music in less than a second. GREAT laptop. BUY THIS.READ FULL REVIEW
