Pros: Specs are fantastic. Screen is gorgeous, unit is blazing fast. Perfect size not too small not too large.
Cons: Frequent crashes and getting stuck at the boot-up animation ( The colorful X ) on a regular basis.
Other Thoughts: Unfortunately it seems like a Lemon. Googles updates to address issues with their branded devices is slow.
Frequent crashes, even stuck at boot screen with the animated X. This behavior is experienced by many, not just me.
Once you get stuck at the boot-up X animation all you can do is reset it and this will wipe out all your data and apps on the device.
This happened to me twice in two weeks. That's why I call it a Lemon.
What good is a device when it is not reliable and causes data loss every time it gets stuck during boot up?
Some say this is a software issue, but since nobody can say for cartain I am not taking this gamble and initiated a return of this unit. What a shame.
Pros: Works like a charm not a single complaint.
Other Thoughts: I had problems with my iMac from the first day I turned it on. Kernal panics, crashes, you name it.
I ran a hardware test and everything seemed in working order. I don't use memory hungry applications so even with the stock iMac I had plenty ram left after launching all the apps I needed.
I made an appointment with a Apple Genius and he confirmed that the hardware is in working order and passed all tests.
I explained I already reinstalled the OS 3 times. I asked him to do it and he did a fresh install of the operating system on-site.
I was able to use the iMac the first day of use after reinstall and my frown turned into a smile. This unfortunately was a short lived period of happiness as the computer started to crash again.
The only issues I experienced in the past with my Mac's were all ram/memory related. So I went ahead and ordered a pair of these beautiful memory sticks at $99. And guess what, the crashes stopped as soon as I added the ram and I haven't had a single issue with my iMac since (7/19/2012)!
It is quite disappointing to see stock ram put into iMac's, that show no errors yet are responsible for the system crashes. I wonder how many users are out there that are told that everything is fine when in fact the Ram is the problem and they can't figure it out because the ram passes the test. NICE!
Pros: The price of $259
Cons: The processor (CPU) drags down the entire performance rating.
Other Thoughts: You always get what you pay for.
2GB ram really is nothing these days, even with the Windows 8 lightweight (compared to Windows 7).
After upgrading the ram to 8GB, apps that have been loaded once stay in memory. This is not a game computer! For regular work 8GB is more than you need to keep your apps in memory and responsive switching between them.
I expected the processor to be slow, but NOT this slow.
Running it with 2GB only is literally painful.
The processor is the determining factor for the low windows performance rating of 3.3 of 10. All other components are 5+ but the CPU is 3.3 so you get a 3.3 rating. The CPU is the heart of the computer. If you have a bad heart it doesn't matter how good your leg is, the heart will always drag it down.
