2 out of 5 eggs Update to my "so far so good" March 2015 review. 04/27/2015

This review is from: MSI Z97-Gaming 7 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Nice looking board. Numerous 3.0's.

Cons: Now not so good. I can not get into bios at all. It does not recognize my keyboard or mouse at boot. I am not a gamer, I just do basic computer things with photos, dvd videos, make backups, etc. Just want to change the boot order.Got in with the msi disk--info said to update utilites. I did, flash update, etc, rebooted, computer died. No F11, Delete or Windows.I tried every backup and restore disk and windows disk I ever had and it would not fix the problem. All my computer parts are brand new from newegg in March 2015, a new build, all working fine. I had to ask my builder to come over and reset cmos.

Other Thoughts: I've spent many thousands at newegg for over ten years now and never left a negative review here. Only have had a few mistakes and newegg took care of it.
I'm back in my windows 7 desktop but still can not get into bios and I don't want it to die again so give up. I've emailed msi and communicated back and forth with Michael. Each email to me suggested to test another part in my pc.
After awhile I sensed he wasn't reading what I was saying.I explained in full the problem and all the parts tested fine, it's the motherboard and could he replace it or fix it as I've had it a month and it's under warranty and it is faulty. He asked me then to reinstall windows. "NO, I'm not doing that, Windows is fine." Took me weeks to get everything back in there. Never heard from him again. Thanks MSI. I know some here have received a good board and are satisfied and I'm glad for you, but I did not and they now are treating me poorly by their indifference towards me. My pc is running but hope I don't have to try and do an image backup or have to get into the bios for anything-I'll have to get another MB. No more MSI anything for me. Not a good customer service which is the most important to me as a buyer. You all have helped me over the years with your reviews so I felt I should this time too.

Pros: Newegg shipped quickly as usual.Thank You. For some reason I'm not sure why, I had a hard time installing the OS and having the windows updates installed. It got stuck and It wouldn't boot and I had to do a repair, then a reinstall. MSI Motherboard is working well so far now.Very jazzy looking board.Put a SSD drive in and noted that in Bios. I'm not a gamer so can't give too many facts. I'm replacing an ASUS X58 board I've had for 4 years that is acting up. My son builds the pc's for me and I do a lot of personal stuff with videos, graphics and photos, etc.

Cons: I think it's too soon to know much about the MB's quality, but a con is Rebate hoop jumping.I would like to ask MSI for a $10.discount off their product price instead of their American express card rebate that is not so easy to apply for and receive.I know no one has twisted my arm to apply for the rebate, but $10 is $10 to me and it was nice of them to offer.

Other Thoughts: rebate--I had to chisel the cardboard UPC off my new MSI MB box very carefully as not to tear the paper and numbers off making it useless, then find the invoice on line, then search for the rebate form on a website, filling out all my personal info, which they want again to be written on a printed form which needs to be mailed to them with a .50 stamp, along with the invoice and cardboard UPC. The rebate is expiring so I had to ruin the box before I knew the MB is working. Make sure to glue their paper address label to the envelope otherwise it will be ignored if hand written. I almost missed that. I thought maybe spray some scent on it so they will be happy to receive it and open it quickly. Now watch for the postman and mail the letter. Follow the truck to make sure he's really going to bring it to the post office safely(not in the instructions). Once they receive it, they'll email and let me know. But they won't be able to do anything about it for about 6 to 8 weeks. Maybe it's vacation time. If I want it faster, deduct $1.00 and they'll send it faster--? I am suppose to receive an American express $10 gift Card. I've heard that the numbers don't work well on line and certain stores do not accept them. Could I just have the discount off the price. I am a senior and this can be confusing. Thank You.

3 out of 5 eggs work good for 3 1/2 years 08/10/2014

This review is from: ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Installed February 2011 and has been working good until now.

Cons: I think it's starting to die. The USB 2.0's are failing.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a decent PC that would last me awhile. I bought parts little by little at newegg and my son built me a nice desktop. I blamed this problem on my new canon printer at first, spent hours trying to fix it, called it every name in the book, but it's the motherboard's 2.0 usb that was the problem. A yellow error in device manager at composite usb. I switched the canon to a card's usb and it works fine. None of my flash sticks are working either in 2.0. The 3.0's are working--so far. I'm a senior on a budget and didn't feel like building another computer to use so soon. Disappointed in ASUS.
