Pros: It actually burned discs while it worked
Cons: I bought this LG Blu-ray rewriter (WH14NS40) in March 2013, and used it to burn total six discs: one blue-ray, five DVD. It started malfunction in November 2013. When I could not burn discs anymore, I did not suspect the burner because it was so new. I tried everything else: Windows 8 64bit, Windows 7 64bit, Windows 7 32bit, Windows native burning software, and third-party burning software, none of them worked (they all worked before). As soon as I took this unit out and put in an Asus burner, everything worked fine. I ended up wasting six blank Blu-ray discs to find out the culprit. Even when the LG burner worked, it was noisier than the other brands I have. This is the second incident that I have had with LG products. The first was a malfunctioning power switch on a LG monitor after a year of normal use. I will stay away from this brand in the future.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: It is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem that worked for two years.
Cons: I bought a Motorola SB-6120 cable modem about two years ago. It had been working fine until about a month ago when it started developing an intermittent slow-down problem. My home network setup includes this modem, a router, and a switch. Whenever the net is slowed down, I recycled the power on three devices in the order of the switch, router, and modem. Only recycling power on the modem could bring the net speed to normal. I also asked the cable company (my Internet Service Provider) to help me diagnose the problem and they monitored the traffic in and out of my modem and identified the abnormal behavior of the modem. By now, I was sure that it was the Motorola modem that had malfunctioned from time to time. I called Motorola for warranty service and, to my surprise, learned the modem only carried a one-year manufacturer’s warranty: My modem has been out of warranty for a year.
I am very disappointed at the Motorola brand and its cable modem. I put my trust and money into this company just to get a subpar product and warranty. Many smaller computer-component manufacturers provide three-year warranty on their products, shame on you Motorola. I share my experience with you so that you know what you get into when you make a purchase.
