Not a Kit
Pros: Worked when installed.
Cons: Advertised as a kit, but the only difference between this and a bare drive is the box it came in. That does not constitute a "kit" in my opinion, and it should not be advertised as such.
Overall Review: When a hard drive is advertised as a retail kit, it usually comes with mounting screws and a data cable. I purchased this item to replace a Hitachi hard drive in my Raid 1 array, after getting a critical array message. The drive worked when installed, and I had no problem rebuilding my array. Time will tell how well it holds up.
Don't Waste Your Time
Pros: None noted
Cons: Poor Customer Service
Overall Review: This is a follow up to my initial review. I was asked to contact ASUS Customer Loyalty. I did so 2 weeks ago. From the response I received back, it was clear that the writer did not read or understand the problem with my DisplayPort connection and the previous repair attempt. I use the term repair loosely, as no one at ASUS has told me what repair was made despite repeated requests. I have heard nothing from the Customer Loyalty rep in over a week. More waste of my time.
Poor Customer Support
Pros: Features versus other A88X boards.
Cons: Defective DisplayPort Connector
Overall Review: I purchased this motherboard over a year ago due to its features and my previous experience with ASUS products. One of the main features that that tipped my decision in favor of this motherboard was the DisplayPort video option. At the time, I did not own a DisplayPort monitor, but I purchased an ASUS ProArt monitor at the end of last year. I have had problems with the DisplayPort connector on the motherboard, ever since I started using it. The video cable end does not fit snugly into the motherboard connector, and I am constantly having to jiggle to cable in order to get a video signal. I swapped the cable connectors between the monitor and the motherboard, but that made no difference, so I know it is not the cable or monitor that is causing my signal problems. In addition, I have never had a signal problem with the DVI connection. I am writing this review using my DVI monitor, as I currently have no video signal on the DisplayPort monitor. In September, I finally got fed up with having to constantly jiggle the cable to get a DisplayPort signal, so I contacted ASUS Customer Support. After an exchange of several messages, ASUS sent me an RMA number. I removed the motherboard, and sent it to ASUS, at my cost, for repair. I never received an acknowledgement that they received it, so I contacted them the week after I received confirmation of delivery from the shipper. I was told that it had been repaired and was being returned to me. I received it the next day. I reinstalled it in my computer, only to discover that it had not been repaired and that my problems were worse than before. Now, in addition to frequent No Signal messages, I find that when it does get a signal, it is often degraded. My ProArt monitor has a native resolution of 1920 X 1080, but it often defaults to 640 X 480 on boot up. I end up having to jiggle the cable and rebooting to get a good signal. I again contacted ASUS Customer Support and told them of my problems. I also asked them what they had done to repair my motherboard, since there was no repair sheet with the returned motherboard. Despite repeated requests for the repair information, ASUS has failed to provide it. After another lengthy message exchange, ASUS offered to send me another RMA number. I asked them to send me a working replacement motherboard and a return shipping label. They declined. I have declined their offer of a second RMA. It is not cost effective, both in money and lost time.
Unable to set up - Older hardware version
Pros: None - so far I have not been able to set up camera
Cons: After 3 hours, I have given up trying to set up the camera. I cannot get it to complete the set up process. It gets down to the end of the set up wizard and says it cannot find the internet connection. I cannot access the internal firmware by typing in the IP address. I have tried the set up procedure using both MAC and Windows 7 computers. Tried the set up process using wireless and wired connections.
Overall Review: Camera I received is an older hardware version. I guess that is why it was on sale. Wish I had never bought this camera.
