PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Capacity for price. It still works after a year. Relatively small.

Cons: After a year of regular use, my experience has been that this drive fails in two important areas - Performance and Design.
For transferring small files, the speed is dismally slow and frustrating. Transfers are not only slow, but they seem to stall at times. My backups take easily twice the time they used to on better quality drives.
After a year on my keyring, the drive is literally falling apart. I put a small ring through the existing hole in the drive to attach to my keyring, and because of the idiotic location of the hole, in line with the seam, the ring has split the halves of the drive and pulled out. I wrapped the drive in reinforced tape to hold the halves together, which worked for a while, but eventually the tape fails. Finally, I did what PNY should have done - I drilled a small hole from side to side through the upper corner opposite from the corner with the original hole, and put the ring through the new hole. The top part of the case is hollow, so the drilling does no damage to the circuit board. And now the ring holds the halves together rather than forcing them apart.
Also, the sliding cover over the connector has never worked smoothly, and it often opens from banging around in my pocket. When slid down, it does protect the connector from flexing, but there is no protection from dust and dirt. There are many other, much better, designs

Other Thoughts: Initially I thought that the trade off for high capacity at a low price was somewhat worth the trade off in speed, but after a year I'm ready to spend a bit more for something much faster. If you just use the drive just for static storage, or for only large files, it may still be worthwhile.
The physical design is just dumb. A better design wouldn't cost any more, and it would make the drive last longer and be more pleasant to use.

Rosewill RHRC-11002 Windows 7 Certified MCE IR Remote Controller/Windows 8 MCE + Small USB Dongle Type, with Netflix CD

Pros: Everything works well with my Windows 7 Pro Thinkpad. I bought it for using while traveling with the laptop, so I like the compact receiver. The price was right.

Cons: The buttons are a bit small for my big fingers, and the layout is cramped. I'd like to see more variation in the button shapes and location, for ease of use without having to look.

Mini Display Port DP Male to HDMI Female Adapter Cable for iMAC Macbook AIR mini

Pros: Video okay

Cons: When I bought the product, the description said mini displayport to HDMI, which I took to mean both audio & video. When the audio didn't work, the seller quickly sent a replacement, which also had no audio. I think it was designed for certain Apple computers that require separate audio cables, but this was not specified. The currently offered item specifies audio, although the picture looks the same.

Other Thoughts: I bought a very similar product from a different vendor, and the audio was fine. Since the new description for this product specifies audio, I suspect that the product has changed and will carry audio, but that was not my experience. The vendor was very cooperative, but I think there was a language barrier regardng the issue. Maybe it was the audio...
