Pros: Bugatti fast on a ferrari budget.
Cons: Limited space for your jeweler to encrust jewels into.
Other Thoughts: I first heard of this card in a Whiz Khalifa song feat. Rick "Rose" Ross.
Supposedly they rock one of these in each of their home servers, and in the case of Rick Ross; at least one around his neck.
Furthermore, according to Whiz, he only has to perform half a show to pay for one of these so they are a pretty good value.
This review is from: Dynatron R15 CPU Cooler
Pros: Great build quality, easy installation and fantastic cooling capacity. For reference, in a 1U supermicro chassis with dual E5-2620 (6C@2GHz) CPUs idle at 30C and top out at 42C under 100% load (measured ambient 13C- 46% humidity).
Cons: kind of pricey for a server heatsink but especially with the higher load E5 xeons it's the best option available as far as passive heatsinks go.
Other Thoughts: I have 5 sets of these running in my farm for the past 8 months and they are fantastic. To me, they are worth the extra cost for the peace of mind. Highly recommended.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: SUPERMICRO MBD-X9DRL-IF-O SSI CEB Server Motherboard Dual LGA 2011 DDR3 1600
Pros: Best value twin 2011 board available. Relatively compact. Boots very fast if you're hardware is all good (~15s). High performance overall. IPMI 2.0 is fantastic. I'm a professional 3D artist and just an hobbyist at IT and I was able to install Windows 2k8 R2 on one machine remotely with ease. I then cloned the drives. I wanted Romley boards primarily because they have SATA3 connectors and I'm running a 10GBps network with SSDs so that makes a big difference.
Cons: In-line socket configuration makes this board primarily suited for servers, not workstations - unless you use water cooling. Has "only" 8 RAM sockets which means that unless you want to spend big bucks on 8GB sticks you're "limited" to 32GB RAM. One of my 5 servers did require an IPMI upgrade for the fans to quiet down after booting - no big deal.
Other Thoughts: I own 5 of these in my home render farm. Following config with Win2k8 R2 works flawlessly.
2x Xeon E5-2620
8x Crucial 4GB CT51264BD160B RAM
Intel 520 60GB
2x Dynatron R15 Heatsinks
Mellanox MHEA28-XTC HCA
I'm buying 5 more of these to max out my Vray render licenses as soon as I can afford it.
