ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM-MU17-BK Black Intel Atom N550(1.50GHz) Dual Core 10.1

Pros: Runs smoothly and quickly. The keyboard is great, and while some dislike the smaller right-side shift key, I don't have any problems typing on it. It's light and looks great; matte screen makes it ideal for using outdoors. The touch pad responds really well and although it does extend to the space bar, if you type properly, you won't accidentally 'bump it' and interrupt your typing. Quick startup. Built-in camera and mic are great for video-chatting. After fully charging the battery, setup took about an hour.

Cons: Battery life; I have yet to see more than 8 of the 10 advertised hours of battery life,'s 8 hours of battery life. Can't complain too much. Windows 7 Starter is annoying but can be upgraded or I guess one could get used to its limitations. At 0.3 megapixels the picture is a bit blurry.

Other Thoughts: After reading other reviews before purchasing, I bought and installed 2GB of RAM and it runs smoothly. I just purchased the Windows Anytime Upgrade: Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium (Starter can be a pain, the upgrade is worth it).

I purchased this netbook so I wouldn't have to continue to lug around my 5-year-old 17" Dell laptop around on campus. I'm a graduate student and this netbook is perfect for taking notes in class, normal web-browsing, streaming music, Skyping, etc.

It's a NETBOOK. It's not supposed to do all the wonderful things a regular computer does. It tries real hard to, though. =)

Microsoft Windows Anytime Upgrade: Windows 7 Starter to Home Premium

5 out of 5 eggs It's worth it. 06/08/2011

This review is from: Microsoft Windows Anytime Upgrade: Windows 7 Starter to Home Premium

Pros: Quick and simple installation. It took about twenty minutes from beginning to end. All of my personalized settings and documents were saved so I didn't have to back up anything (or re-do all my settings).

Cons: I was unable to install the Upgrade initially, because there were "important updates" (i.e., Service Pack 1) waiting to be downloaded on my newly-purchased netbook. However, the installation process didn't tell me what was blocking me from upgrading properly and I had to spend some time on the phone with Microsoft Support to troubleshoot.

Other Thoughts: This "upgrade" is a nice way to keep from splurging on the full version of Windows 7. Got this for my ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM (netbook) because I couldn't stand Windows 7 Starter. It was definitely worth the extra price but Windows 7 Starter is pointless and shouldn't exist, in my opinion.
