SAMSUNG D3 Station 4TB USB 3.0 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs 3 Year Warranty Terrific Value for an External Drive 10/26/2014

This review is from: SAMSUNG D3 Station 4TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STSHX-D401TDB Black

Pros: A 3 year warranty! Lots of space. Fast transfer of data if you have a USB 3 port on your computer. For the unfamiliar, this drive works fine with a USB 2 port, the transfer rate is just slower. Price is very very good for this much storage.

Backups, video and audio streaming are perfect for this drives speed and space

Others have said this is actually a Seagate drive internally as a positive

Cons: The drive is either 5400 rpm or 5900 rpm (most 4 TB drives seem to be this rpm speed). This speed is important only if you editing / writing / saving files on the drive directly.

Many others have mentioned it comes with a short USB 3 cable.

Seagate drive reliability has come into question in the last few years but this drive has 3 year warranty

Other Thoughts: Older computers may have issues with a 4 tb drive. Make sure your does NOT before you buy 4tb (or 3tb too)

Hard drives fail, it is guaranteed. Newegg is exemplary in replacing defective products. You should expect your drive to last at least two year beyond the New Egg return period. (I just used an external drive I've had since 2005 - it was just 300 GB)

Similarly priced space / brands have just 1 or 2 year warranties

I just purchased my 2rd drive of this model.

I swap back-ups with my 1000 miles away sister every six months. The 3 year warranty protects my limited use of this drive with our infrequent backups and swapping.

I bought a 6 foot USB 3 cable when I purchased the drive. Hope this was review is helpful, mark it if it is.

Seagate Expansion 3TB USB 3.0 3.5
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

2 out of 5 eggs Terrible Warranty Good Price 08/04/2014

This review is from: Seagate Expansion 3TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STBV3000100

Pros: Space for backing up everything. Good price. USB 3 makes backup faster than USB 2. Works on USB 2 ports too but at slower speed.

Great service at Newegg with Premier

Cons: Cheap Warranty of only ONE YEAR! Cheap construction

Other Thoughts: Check out competing brands / models. Other brands have 3 year warranty of the same capacity at approximately the same price.

I don't have much confidence in a drive with only a one year warranty. Will not buy a drive with only a one year guarantee again

Seagate Expansion 4TB USB 3.0 3.5
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

3 out of 5 eggs Exrataordinary Capacity Good Price but Terrible Warranty 07/24/2014

This review is from: Seagate Expansion 4TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STBV4000100

Pros: reduces backup time significantly compared to USB 2.

For novices: Your computer must have USB 3 technology for higher speeds but you can still use the drive in USB 2 ports without problems

Cons: Warranty only 1 year!

Short USB Cable. Physical case edges / corners are so sharp you could cut yourself

Seagate had reduced case composition quality from previous models - it is really cheap plastic. RPM drive specs are not listed on the specs, package, etc.

Other Thoughts: Drive is 5900 RPM, but it is only a con if you are editing / saving stuff directly on the drive

The drive is inexpensive but there are other brand / labels that have a 3 year warranty at competitive prices. I bought the competition.

Disk technology / capacity has increased dramatically over the years. Manufacturers have merged, competition has diminished. Warranties no longer are long enough to think that manufavturers are confident in their product quality. Drives are priced at junk prices (buy cheap, buy more if you have a problem).

It is the philosophy of the big chain superstores - sell junk stuff cheaply so the consumer has to buy more junk stuff when it breaks. The company wins, the consumer loses; the company profits, when it breaks the company profits again.

A 'good' hard drive should last at least 5 years. All hard drives will fail eventually - you need to have BU. The only reason to buy THIS drive is if your data needing backup is huge and your budget is very tight

Seagate is saying 'we are not confident' that our drives are good products because they only have a one year warranty
