This review is from: TOSHIBA Canvio Desk 5TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive HDWC250XK3J1 Black
Pros: Space for extra large files, multiple backups and drive images to save ourselves from system failure. This is a large capacity external with 7200 rpm speed. The three year warranty on externals beats the competition. USB 3 speed and backward compatible to USB 2 (at the USB 2 slower speed). Price is equal to or only slightly more than competing brands with shorter warranties and slower rpm. There is a significant performance boosts for USB 3 at 7200 RPM.
Cons: No on / off button. Skip the included backup software and use something better
Other Thoughts: I believe cloud storage for backup or file storage is not secure; security breaches are rampant and reported every day. My data dates back over 20 years. I rotate backups between multiple externals and swap a disk every 6 months with another family member. I use Acronis software
Most other large capacity external drives are slower at 5900 rpm. Toshiba upped its competitive thrust by offering 3 year warranties as the industry consolidated and reduced warranties to 1 year on low price models. Toshiba demonstrates more confidence in their technology by offering the longer warranty
ALL mechanical hard drives are guaranteed to fail whether it be in 8 years, 2 years, 1 year or next month. The 3 year warranty will save replacement costs if a drive fails within the 2nd or 3rd year. It seems short sighted to me if you buy any other brand with slower speed or shorter support

This review is from: SAMSUNG D3 Station 4TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STSHX-D401TDB Black
Pros: A 3 year warranty! Lots of space. Fast transfer of data if you have a USB 3 port on your computer. For the unfamiliar, this drive works fine with a USB 2 port, the transfer rate is just slower. Price is very very good for this much storage.
Backups, video and audio streaming are perfect for this drives speed and space
Others have said this is actually a Seagate drive internally as a positive
Cons: The drive is either 5400 rpm or 5900 rpm (most 4 TB drives seem to be this rpm speed). This speed is important only if you editing / writing / saving files on the drive directly.
Many others have mentioned it comes with a short USB 3 cable.
Seagate drive reliability has come into question in the last few years but this drive has 3 year warranty
Other Thoughts: Older computers may have issues with a 4 tb drive. Make sure your does NOT before you buy 4tb (or 3tb too)
Hard drives fail, it is guaranteed. Newegg is exemplary in replacing defective products. You should expect your drive to last at least two year beyond the New Egg return period. (I just used an external drive I've had since 2005 - it was just 300 GB)
Similarly priced space / brands have just 1 or 2 year warranties
I just purchased my 2rd drive of this model.
I swap back-ups with my 1000 miles away sister every six months. The 3 year warranty protects my limited use of this drive with our infrequent backups and swapping.
I bought a 6 foot USB 3 cable when I purchased the drive. Hope this was review is helpful, mark it if it is.
This review is from: Seagate Expansion 3TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Pros: Space for backing up everything. Good price. USB 3 makes backup faster than USB 2. Works on USB 2 ports too but at slower speed.
Great service at Newegg with Premier
Cons: Cheap Warranty of only ONE YEAR! Cheap construction
Other Thoughts: Check out competing brands / models. Other brands have 3 year warranty of the same capacity at approximately the same price.
I don't have much confidence in a drive with only a one year warranty. Will not buy a drive with only a one year guarantee again
