Pros: Gigabit LAN, Wireless N, lots of features, but missing something essential (see cons/other thoughts)
Cons: I tried to set the LAN settings with IP 10.2.5.65/255.255.255.224 and DHCP Server Rage of 10.2.5.66-10.2.5.94, and was given "IP is not in LAN subnet range." which is absolutely incorrect. I opened a helpdesk ticket on their website, but was tired of waiting after 1 day and called. The representative put me on hold for several minutes after I explained everything to him. He came back saying "You cannot subnet outside of the default subnet mask settings because this is a home/office router, but we offer enterprise routers that are capable of that". This is also false because I can take a class A network and subnet it to a class C. (i.e. I can use 255.255.255.0 SNM on 10.2.5.x, but cannot use the settings I described initially).
Other Thoughts: This is really absurd since I was able to use these exact same settings on a piece of junk fifty dollar Netgear Wireless G router. And then they want to upsell me into "Enterprise Grade" routers that support "this type of subnetting". We purchased 4 of these TEW-691GR's (not from newegg), and they're all getting returned for a different brand.
Are you KIDDING ME!? A subnet mask with any octet value other than 0 or 255 is AN ENTERPRISE GRADE FEATURE?! THAT IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE, AND IN INSULT TO THE INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS!
I absolutely will never again purchase anything TRENDnet, or recommend them to anyone. Subnetting is a fundamental function of the TCP/IP suite, TRENDnet is charging a pretty penny for this device, but you have to pay them for an even more expensive device to have the "feature" of creating a subnet?! Simply shocking...
This review is from: 3.5in Black eSATA USB 2.0 to IDE SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure
Pros: Worked while it lasted
Cons: I was erasing a bunch of drives that needed the data wiped from them. I turned it off, disconnected the USB and the Power, swapped the drive. When I powered it on again, it started SMOKING! BAD!
This thing is total fail. We won't buy another.
