This review is from: OCZ Vector Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC VTR1-25SAT3-256G
Pros: Fast data rate and highly responsive under full load. Works great in RAID. Significantly reduces the waiting time on applications and databases.
Cons: 33% failure rate. Out of nine drives we bought for the company, three are already dead in little over a year. RMA process suspect to nonexistent with multiple tickets submitted.
Other Thoughts: I do not recommend, at this time, any drive with an OCZ label on it regardless of who owns the company. Had I known that these drives were so prone to dying, I'd have purchased the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSDs to begin with. Speaking of which, as these drives fail we are replacing them with Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSDs. Having RMA'd a Samsung monitor, I can tell you Samsung's RMA process is light years ahead of OCZ.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Decent price
Easy to assemble with little to no fuss
Solid rails for the rack mount - comes with adapters for both types of server racks found on the market
Runs quieter than the SuperMicro 1U models.
Air flow design is top notch
The redundant power supply is a bonus.
Liked this unit so much that a second one was purchased.
Cons: The quality assurance has been suspect of late in making sure all the parts for the server are making it into the box. Because we have purchased multiple SuperMicro servers in the past, this was not a show stopper for us since we have extra parts on hand, but it is something to keep in mind. In our case the sata back plane for the slim DVD drive was missing. Knocked off an egg because of this.
Other Thoughts: We added an Intel SAS/sata raid card to use in the server so not all of the motherboard's functions were tested. If you want to use solid state drives in the 3.5" hot swap bays I recommend buying the icy dock trays. They work well in our configuration.
Our server config:
64 GB ECC RAM
OCZ SDD in RAID 1
Icy Dock trays for the SSDs
Intel SAS/Sata RAID card
Windows Server 2012 Std
Pros: Producing 60 fps (game's fps cap) on ultra high settings in Mechwarrior Online. This card handles MWO's CryEngine 3 with a level of detail and smoothness that is unbelievable.
Quiet, rock solid video card. The case fans make more noise. The three fan design on the heat sink is better than the reference design fans most mount.
A pair of these cards in SLI out perform a single 690. Right now, the price of two of these cards is in the same ballpark of a 690. No reason to buy a 690 with cards like this one on the market. Definitely worth purchasing one if you can.
Cons: Smaller cases and older motherboards might find it a bit cramped fitting one of these as it does take up three slots in the case.
Other Thoughts: For point of reference:
32 GB Crucial
256 GB OCZ Vector
ASRock Z77 Extreme 6
4 GB Gigabyte 680
