ASUS Radeon R7 240 R7240-2GD3-L 2GB 128-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: If you want to upgrade an older home/ home office machine, this is probably your best bet. While it says a 400W power supply is required, my 300W supply does just fine. Nor does this card require a separate power input. We got this for my gamer son and he is completely happy with the frame rate he is getting on his online games. I'm sure this isn't enough for the state of the art, high end games but for upgrading a basic computer, this card hits the right performance vs price ratio. No issue with drivers either and very easy install.

Cons: None

Western Digital WD Green WD10EZRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Cost, quick delivery, everything works.

Cons: No mounting screws

Other Thoughts: I understood bare drives, but I thought I'd at least get mounting screws. Definitely a pain hunting around looking for extra screws. Once they were in the machine, both drives spun up fine.

Rosewill RC-212 VIA PCI SATA 1.5G / IDE ATA 133 Controller Card / Supports Raid 0, 1, 0+1, JBOD, non-RAID mode
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: + Inexpensive
+++ Comes with two SATA cables and power cables
+++ Works right out of the box with FreeNAS

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: FreeNAS 8.04 recognized this card right out of the box and I had two additional 1TB drives running with no additional configurations. This is a SATA I card so there is a max speed limit but it looks like I'm more limited by my networking components so no reason to spend more. Having the cables included is a big time and cost savings. I have lots of IDE stuff laying around but not so many SATA cables and the old machine I was upgrading did not have extra SATA power hookups so having all the adapters supplied was a really good bonus.
