GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990X + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: There's a reason this motherboards one of the very best for the AM3 socket, the things a complete beast!
Tons of features solid construction, very few drivers needed for a windows install, and solid overclocking via bios. One thing I did hit that I didn't expect was the width of this board for an ATX it's rather beefy 3 screws across and 3 from top to bottom total of 9 screws. Compared to my older core 2 duo gigabyte it was an inch wider if not more. Despite that its a killer motherboard

Cons: None what so ever, Gigabyte motherboard though and thought its completely rock solid. Only every had 1 problem with there boards and they went out of there way to get me a new one with in 2 days when that occoured.

Other Thoughts: Case: Antec 900
CPU: AMD 1090t Thuban
MB: Gigabyte 990XA-UD3

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 6-Core 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Desktop Processor HDT90ZFBGRBOX

Pros: Was a little nervous about this CPU, was really torn between the AMD 1100 and this 1090t in the end I picked this due to the price and wow am I glad I did. First off it runs so cool on the Cooler Master 212 plus that If I decide to overclock I have no doubt what so ever it would hit 4.0GHz with out breaking a sweat. After 3 hours of intensive benchmark using prime95 it didn't even break a sweat, and that was after a 100GB fresh reinstall of Windows 7. Between this CPU and my old core 2 duo, this CPU simply blows it out of the water. Worth every penny especially if your trying to stay to a budget.

Cons: The factory heat sink. Frankly its a decent looking heat sink that comes with it. Solid base with heat pipes and nice spacing on the fins of the aluminum. Everything looks good right until you look and the fan and automatically say to your self that's insanely too small for this generation CPU. Needless to say get your self a better cooler unless your really worried about your warranty.

Pros: Well what all can you say about memory, its a stick its about yay big and it goes in the little slot its supposed to. Timings were exactly as advertised, had no problem plugin and playing them motherboard recognized them the second it booted with the correct settings for them. They work great exactly what I wanted.

Cons: The one thing that kind of urked me about these memory sticks was the way they were packaged. Felt like i was preforming brain surgery just trying to remove them from the clam shell. Of course if I hadn't been so lazy and just gotten a larger pair of scissors it likely wouldn't have been an issue. :)
