Pros: Reliable, fast transfer rates, extended warranty from WD, quiet. Works with older motherboards that don't support Advanced Format Drives: Jumper 7-8 and 5-6 on the WD1002FAEX.
Cons: Documentation for drive align is good, but lacking when a drive is cloned from an aligned advanced format drive. Cloned drives won't necessarily be aligned. Moving such a cloned drive to older hardware will leave the drive unrecognized in the bios, it won't show in any operating system. Some motherboards require only jumpers 5-6 to drop the speed to 1.5GBs. Others require jumpers 7-8 as well, to defeat the Advance Format features, which also slows down operation.
Other Thoughts: If cloning drives, then consider aligning all new drives before putting them into service. Advanced Format drives (AFD) used on most new hardware need no prep. Plugging a working AFD into an older computer can make it appear that the drive is damaged (think jumpers, not RMA).READ FULL REVIEW
