Does its job

SiliconDust HDHR3-CC HDHomeRun PRIME 3-Tuner US CableTV with CableCARD Stream Premium Channels and Cut the Cord
SiliconDust HDHR3-CC HDHomeRun PRIME 3-Tuner US CableTV with CableCARD Stream Premium Channels and Cut the Cord

Pros: Works largely as advertised. Windows Media Center is fully supported. Picture quality is very high. Seems well built.

Cons: Software not included, but required from their website. When I got the box, the download service was down. Please include the software in the box for this reason alone. Software is slow to search for stations, and seems to stall at times. Codecs necessary for video playback on Windows 8 not included in the software install.

Overall Review: Windows Media Center is a pain in the rear. I ended up re-installing Windows because Play Ready wouldn't work. After reinstalling Windows, everything was much simpler. I blame MS for this, not Silicone Dust. I am taking an egg off because of the software issues, lack of necessary codecs, and the fact that the Android software requires an additional purchase. Once working, it streams flawlessly across the wifi to an Xbox 360 and PC at the same time - both streams in HD. I leave one tuner open for recording. I would certainly buy this again, and I am sure future installations will be much simpler now that I know how to fix everything.

Almost Works

MSI K9N6PGM2-V AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
MSI K9N6PGM2-V AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Well laid out. Supports everything I need for an HTPC.

Cons: The first one is being sent back. I installed the board and at first got no post. Then after a restart I got my video card to post (PNY 9600GT Bios message) but the system refused to go any further. I thought this might be an issue with my video card, took it out.... and no post again. Cleared the Cmos and tried again. This time it posted with MASSIVE video corruption. Still I tried to recover the machine doing everything I can, new bios, turn off the non-essentials, and at some point got it to boot. After 3-4 minutes in linux (mythbuntu), it hardlocks, and I am stuck finding the main power switch.

Overall Review: After I get the second one, I will post back. This was bought locally just in case this happened (sorry newegg, I just don't like to wait). The rest of the rig: This mobo AMD X2 5600 (Brisbane Core) Antec fusion case with Antec Earthwatts 380 PS PNY 9600GT TT Blue orb cpu cooler Samsung DVD Burner (x2) 1TB Samsung harddrive.

Not bad

Vantec NexStar TX 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive / SSD Enclosure - Model NST-210S2-BK

Pros: Surprisingly well built. Included cable is of decent quality. Comes with soft protective cover. Even includes the tools needed, and extra screws. Got it free with an HD HomeRun - will probably pick up another one or two.

Cons: SATA board doesn't seem to be attached to the case all that securely, seems like it would break easily... just be gentle with it. Included plastic protector for the hard drive rattles around in there. Would have been nice if it was large enough to cover the entire bottom of the case and not move around.

Overall Review: With an older Toshiba 5,400RPM drive, I am getting 35~50MB/sec write speeds depending on the location on the drive, and 40~50MB/sec read speeds. It does need two USB ports to provide enough power for the drive, unless you have a newer Gigabyte board (or similar) with extra power on a single port.

They work

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin PC RAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin PC RAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

Pros: Installation was a breeze, snapped em in and moved on. The default profile works well enough, XMP profile sets up all the important stuff for most people. This ram is a great value. Currently running 8-8-8-22-1T @ 1.65V

Cons: Not much overclocking headroom, or ability to really tighten up timings. Not much of a con considering price, but fair warning.

Overall Review: I tested this out with Memtest86, and Windows memory diagnostic at both 9-9-9-24-2t@1600Mhz, and at 8-8-8-22-1t. Both tested out rock solid. Using an EVGA-P55-SLI motherboard with an Intel Core i5 760. Newegg was darned quick, as usual. Ordered on Thursday, in my mailbox on Monday.

Works well

ViewSonic VFD810-50 8" 800x600 Digital Photo Frame 4:3 Aspect Ratio Easy to Use Menu Control Brightness Adjustment & Slideshow Transition Effect

Pros: Bought two of these for Christmas gifts. Went ahead and loaded up a 2GB card for each of them, and fired them up to make sure they worked. They have a surprisingly sharp picture. These are very bright, enough for a typical well lit living room. They were also very well protected in the original box.

Cons: None yet.

Overall Review: For the low price paid, I wasn't really expecting much, but these are VERY nice.

Still works great

Thermaltake CL-P0257 Blue orb II CPU Cooler for LGA775 & K8
Thermaltake CL-P0257 Blue orb II CPU Cooler for LGA775 & K8

Pros: This fan has now seen 4 different processors, from an AMD Athlon 64X2 5600+, all the way to my current AMD Phenom 2 X2 550 (unlocked to 4 cores), and 2 different motherboards. It has kept every one of these chips cool, and does its job silently. If you need a fan for a media center that doesn't make any noise, yet does its job well, this will do it.

Cons: The heatsink is huge. It does not leave much room for ram clearance, and I have had some difficulty in the past changing ram out (corsair XMS DDR2 800's), if you are using ram with over sized heat spreaders, they likely won't fit underneath. This fan also has the screws in a very awkward location to install it. Still, once installed, it seems very secure and the mounting has never failed me.

Overall Review: As mentioned above, this has been in use in my media center. It is currently running on an MSI 785 motherboard with an AMD 3.2Ghz quad core Phenom 2 and 4GB of DDR2 800. So far, this machine has been running 24/7 for over 4 years and never had a heat issue. Well worth it for similar applications. I would NOT recommend this for overclocking though.
