Pros: Refurbishment is well done. No dust in fans, etc.
Comes complete with HDD, RAM, optical drive, discrete video, etc.
Comes with the operating system which can be upgraded to Windows 10 for free - though that offer from MS is about to end.
Cons: "Niceness" of the machine you get varies, of course, because these are refurbs.
Other Thoughts: I have bought 2 of these from this same refurbisher. We use one as my wife's PC and the other as an HTPC (with the addition of a fanless video card with HDMI output). Great for both uses. The first one was extremely well packed, immaculate inside, immaculate outside, smell-free and fully functional. The HDD's spindle bearing was worn out (lots of noise and vibration) so I replaced the drive. No big deal and not unexpected for a refurb. The second one was poorly packed (just pieces of broken foam wedged around the corners of the machine). The drive cage smells like pipe smoke or some such (tobacco smell in any case), the air intake grille on the front has a deep gouged area, and the case is banged up, especially in one of the corners. BUT for my purposes, and considering that it works perfectly, it's still a pretty good value.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Works fine
Immense value for the money
Cons: Unbelievably cheap case
Incredibly loud back fan
Only one normal size drive bay
Other Thoughts: Remember that this is a barebones. You will need to add a HDD and RAM (only comes with 2gb) and an optical drive.
The back case fan is INCREDIBLY noisy, even at its slower speeds when the ambient temp is cold. It's almost comically loud. BUT that said, it's a little fully monitored (HP ILO) server for a good price if you can stand the noise. I use it as a house file server to serve streaming media and for a syslog server. For these tasks, it works great and has been very reliable. As long as you know what you're getting into and just need a reliable little file server that can also run some basic processes such as a syslog server, this is a great deal.
This review is from: NETGEAR SRX5308-100NAS ProSafe Quad WAN Gigabit SSL VPN Firewall
Pros: High throughput
Sturdy steel case
Redundant WAN ports
Gigabit all around
Good VPN support
Internal power supply
Cons: Early firmware buggy (newest firmware works much better)
SSL issues with IE11
Other Thoughts: Had to use Chrome to get the firmware updated because early firmware has SSL issues with IE11 and latest Firefox so couldn't get to user interface except with Chrome. With newer firmware and remote HHTPS management turned off, can now use Firefox as well. Otherwise, an excellent router with astronomical throughput and a fairly easy to use interface, Very nice.READ FULL REVIEW
