ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: Built a cheap rig with a Phenom 965 and had absolutely no issues. Overclocked past 4GHz, running stable at 3.9. The UEFI BIOS is nice, takes a little while to discover all the options. See other thoughts.

Cons: The NB runs a bit hot, which I guess is by design. Once you overclock via FSB, the funky cooler there starts to heat up to a point where you think it would glow in the dark. Directing a fan that way might be a good measure.

Other Thoughts: There comes a point where you have too many options. Here, you can overclock manually via BIOS, OR use the BIOS optimized settings, OR some high power button, OR some DOCP optimization, OR use ASUS AI suite to overclock from Windows, and there you have about 3 or 4 ways to do this either automatically (even stress-testing!) or manually or something in between. Like I said, there comes a point where it gets confusing because you can somewhat combine these options and then you won't really know what supersedes which setting. And it is not only overclocking, there are also multiple ways to optimize energy usage which works like OC just the other way. I guess you have to pick one and run with it at some point. I guess it is better to have too many options than too little, but sometimes I think simple manual BIOS overclocking was just... cleaner.

BIOSTAR H61MLV2 LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

5 out of 5 eggs Good basic board 05/28/2013

This review is from: BIOSTAR H61MLV2 LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great basic small ff board. Runs flawlessly (so far) with a Celly 1610. Using it for a HTPC build. Runs well with 4, 8 or 16 GB of RAM. Windows 7 update provided all the drivers. Had latest BIOS installed - no problems with IB Celly.

Cons: Last generation - no USB3, no SATA3. Also does not have a DVI or HDMI connector, so graphics card needs to be added for that.

Other Thoughts: If the rebate comes through, this will turn out to be one very economic computer. :) I don't *NEED* USB3 and SATA3, so that's not a problem for me.

MSI 880GMS-E41 (FX) AM3+ AMD 880G SATA 6Gb/s HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Great value after rebate, good set of features. Auto OC Genie is very cool, and MB can unlock 4th core on x3 Rana processor.

Cons: My board showed an incompatibility with the video driver (Catalyst Control Center), computer crashed on driver install, both using the driver from the supplied CD, driver from MSI website, and driver directly from AMD.

The 95W max is somewhat limiting, especially when you try to unlock cores or overclock (which are useful features of the board). There just aren't too many low wattage AMD CPU's out there.

Other Thoughts: Still trying to get this to work without installing CCC. Using it with a Rana x3 CPU like many here. Unlocking to x4 goes over the 95W spec of the board so I undid that.
