Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54690K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600

Pros: Fast. Cool. Efficient.

Nice, easy OC to 4.2 Ghz at only 1.1 volts. I know for a fact that I could push it much further with ease, but I'm enjoying the low wattage and max temps in low 50s on air.

Cons: Came with a dinky chunk of scrap for a heatsink. Get something to make this cpu feel loved, and it will love you back.

Other Thoughts: Coming off of my old AMD 965BE, this cpu doesn't FEEL that much faster during average workloads or in games, but I feel better knowing that my cpu won't be bottle-necking my new GTX 970.

GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-SLI LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Worked fine from the get-go. Plenty of USB ports and PCI slots. No problems installing or booting up. My last Gigabyte motherboard served me well holding a decent overclock for almost 5 years: I was sad I had to give it up when I upgraded my cpu.

The bios is set up very nicely. Tons of configurable settings and options, many of which I have not explored yet.

Cons: Onboard video wastes lots of space with stuff I will never use, but that's Intel's fault, not Gigabyte's.

Other Thoughts: Installing my Zalman CNPS9700 heatsink was a pain in the neck compared to the simplicity of installing on my old AMD board, but it seems to be working fine now.

Pros: Blows my 7870 out of the water. Games that were just squeaking by with the 7870 at 20-30 fps (such as a heavily modded games like Skyrim or GTA4) just melt away at 60+ fps. I really like the silent fan feature, and my case has enough ventilation the fans rarely even spin up.

Cons: HUGE. Like, really really huge. Check the specs and make sure your case has the room.

Other Thoughts: It should be noted I upgraded from a 965BE cpu and 7870 gpu to a 4690k cpu and this 970 gpu, so the gains I noticed in games were surely helped along by the new cpu as well.

I am gearing up for the Witcher 3 release in Feb 2015. I'm more than confident this card will be ready.
