Pros: I replaced an Seagate 500gig hard drive in a 3 year old HP Pavilion dv6-2151cl laptop with this new Hybrid drive. I was never happy with the old drive, it always seemed sluggish even with regular defragging.
I wanted a lot more hard drive space for movies, music, games and doing video editing when I'm on vacation, so I took a chance on this new drive. I did a clean install with a Win 7 Premium Home DVD.. it was a hassle but I wanted to avoid all the junkware HP puts on their laptops. After a few days of regular use (leaving it on for 2-4 hours) I've noticed my old laptop has a lot more "spunk" and speed now. Windows 7 and big programs like Firefox and Photoshop load up in less than a minute. I've also done video editing with Sony Movie Studio 11. Sorting through, editing and rendering huge 1920×1080 HD MTS movie clips is MUCH faster and glitch free than it was working with the old drive.
Cons: It does slow down when transferring huge files like 3-4 gig movies, but overalll its still faster than most laptop hard drives. This drive is not quite the SSD-like super speed demon Seagate has hyped it to be, but still very quick and surprising, especially for loading WIndows 7.
Other Thoughts: I wonder what kind of performance a hybrid drive would have with a 7200 rpm disc speed and 32-64 or more gigs of cache? I hope this drive lasts for a few years until I get a new laptop or 1-2TB SDD drives become more affordable. I do a lot of traveling with my laptop, and I dont baby it. Hopefully Seagate wont flinch on their warranty. To wrap it up, this is an excellent upgrade drive if you have an older laptop and I'm very happy with it.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: HooToo® HT-UH007 USB 3.0 HUB (4 Port, Bus-Powered, Built-in 1ft USB 3.0 Cable)
Pros: Small size, doesn't need a power supply.
Cons: I was hoping to use this HUB to add more ports to my Rosewill USB 3.0 card. The first time I tried it, Windows 7 found it and installed the USB 3.0 drivers for it.
So I plugged in my Seagate 4TB portable hard drive and it worked fine, but when i plugged in a WD 3,0 1TB passport drive I got a BSOD error. I never tried that again.
It does work fine for simple USB 2.0 things like scanners, printers, mouse, bluetooth adapters etc. Just dont ask too much from it. Also the cable is very short, about a foot long, so its best for laptops.
This review is from: SABRENT EC-35UK Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 3.0 Hard Drive Enclosure
Pros: Very basic and easy to assemble. A WD 500g SATA Caviar hard drive fit and connected fine. The screwdriver is a nice touch for the small screws.
Cons: While the USB 3.0 was fast reading from the enclosure, I kept getting drive errors and USB disconnects while trying to copy some large files (movies, photos, mp3's) to it.
Other Thoughts: I have used other Sabrent enclosures before, (an IDE 3.5", USB 2.0) with no problems, this one was very disappointing.READ FULL REVIEW
