4 out of 5 eggs ESO Veterans Honest Review. 05/12/2014

This review is from: The Elder Scrolls Online PC Game

Pros: Players Game History: I have played ESO since BETA 1 and still play it today. I will try and give an unbiased opinion on the game.
GRAPHICS & SOUND 5/5: The game is very attractive visually. The lighting in the game is phenomenal. Textures are smooth and well done. Do not expect Skyrim graphics for an MMO. The graphics that have been placed for this MMO are perfect. The sound like in any Elders game is on also phenomenal. The way they worked the ambient sounds and music to suit your situation is art. I catch myself rising up the sound with my BOSE headset to completely immures myself into the environment.

CONTENT 5/5: This game is nothing short of content. There is PVP and there is tons of quest and dungeons even after main game completion. You can spend days on one map working on side quest and then notice that you have not touched the main story line. The crafting is easy and a-lot of fun to do, it’s not a huge headache like in a-lot of MMO’s. Everything is very well organized.

COMMUNITY 4/5: As a-lot of MMO games there are immature kids aka. Trolls, but due to a pay-to-play it’s not a huge deal. There is a-lot of older group guilds to play into. I have met a-lot of people out there looking to help you out with quests and dungeons it all just depends who you run into. If you are a mature MMO player looking for a good community this is a game to look into.

Gameplay 4/5: There are some bugs still being polished out. It was a rough launch for the game but that is to be expected. There has never been an MMO with a perfect launch. For people that were there for the WOW launch they know how bad it was. The game play is very well done. The combat seems a tad laggy at times when switching weapons or popping a potion but I am very far away from there servers at the moment and the ping spike is to be expected but it is very rare. The combat is more straight forward then elder scrolls with a max of 12 skills with the total of two weapons equipped but only 5+1 ult can be equipped on a single weapon, which I enjoy over the over population of squares in a-lot of MMOs. It’s a-lot more tactical so switching between skills for situations is a must.

ADD-ONS: This is a unique part of ESO. They give you the ability to put in add-ons into the game. Example: Mini Map/ Health Gauges/ Damage tracker..etc I use this function, and truly enjoy the flexibility of the game.

Pay-to-play: Everyone has their opinion on a P2P game. I personally do not drink nor do I smoke. People spend tons of money on both or one of the other, much more than 15$ A MONTH but they don’t bat an eye or take that to account. I am a strong believer in P2P especially with a game that will continue to produce content and take care of their people. It also helps weed out the kids that ruin the game.

Cons: BOTs: If you are not versed on what a BOT is, it refers to a player that is actually being ran by a third party program and does not have someone at the actual key board. This was a huge problem at the start of the game and still is going on now. Zenimax has been working to remove BOTs completely like all MMOs. I have ran into GM (Game Masters) that you can message and they will delete/remove BOTs on the spot. Thousands of account have been terminated for BOTing. So something is being done about it.

Phasing/party questing: This could be one of the biggest mistakes that was programed into the game. I truly enjoy MMO’s for the ability to be able to quest with my fellow questers but it has been hindered immensely. If you are working on a quest and have done any advancements in the quest and you have a friend that just started that quest you will not be able to help him/her in the quest unless you start the quest over from the start (removing it from quest que and picking it back up) and if you complete it, you will not be able to help them at all. I am not sure why they would do this but I really hope it can be changed.

Gold drop: The gold drop from mobs is quite horde. The average is about 2 gold from any given mob and boss mobs can range from 1 - a couple hundred. When a horse cost 40,000+ gold its hurts. The maps are huge which good thing when you have a horse to run around in but if you are on foot you will be taking twice as long to get to places then usual. You could get the imperial edition which starts you off with a horse for 1 gold but you would have to fork out 80$ and not everyone is able to produce that kind of money for a game.

IMPERIAL EDITION: I bought the imperial edition for 80$ which includes a month subscription+ imperial armor conversion + 1 gold coin horse + some extra pets + imperial race. I honestly spent an extra 20$ for the horse and imperial race. I do not run with a pet(ill explain why after this) I do not convert my armor to imperial (which any one get through Motifis). You can buy the normal edition and if you notice you love it and want it all the little extras you can always upgrade it to the imperial edition. Just weigh the pros and cons.

The bagging/ loot bags: The main reasons I have issues with the bagging system is not the actual space, they give you plenty of space and the ability to expand in the bank, your person and your horse. It’s the fact that the pets you get take up inventory space. They are not a special equipped item. Example if you want a monkey to follow you, you have to have it in your bag not equipped to your person. Same goes with the Treasure maps. They took a-lot of space at the start of the game and still do. Other than that the amount of space you can upgrade to is great.

Other Thoughts: To wrap this review up the game is honestly very well made. The content is there, there is updating and bug fixing is on a regular cycle and I do believe it’s a 4.5 egg game. I would completely recommend this game to a friend. I actually am buying a laptop for my wife so we can quest together on a new pact. The game does have its flaws but the pros far outweigh any flaw this game has. If you don’t mind P2P, a strong community, plenty of content and more to come, fantastic visuals and sound then you are in the write neighborhood. Take my review like a grain of salt, pick up the game and try it out and best of luck in Tamrial!
