HGST H3IK40003272SW (0S03363) 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5
  • Owned For: less than 1 day

Pros: Huge size is great for backups and the price is very cheap compared to buying Network Attached Storage. It didn't arrive DOA.

Cons: 11.5 MB/sec write speed is very slow but since I'm using it just for backups it's not a big deal. I wouldn't use it as a primary work drive.

Cisco Small Business SD2005 Gigabit Switch
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

2 out of 5 eggs RMA'ed after 12 months 05/11/2009

This review is from: Cisco Small Business SD2005 Gigabit Switch

Pros: Worked when it was working.

Cons: Failed after 12 months in data center in temperature controlled environment. Power cycled it once in the 12 months. Failure showed up as fragmented packets resulting in 80% packet loss/resent packets. Power cycling didn't fix. Really hard to debug faulty hardware like this so if your time is valuable, get commercial hardware or stick with 100Mbps network.

Other Thoughts: I guess there's no such thing as cheap gigabit hardware.

4 out of 5 eggs WPA2 Bridge Mode Doesn't Work 02/08/2009

This review is from: LINKSYS WAP54G 802.11b/g Wireless-G Access Point up to 54Mbps/ DD-WRT Open Source Support

Pros: Works well as a standard access point.

Cons: Despite what the documentation says, it does not support WPA2 (WPA-AES aka "WPA2-Personal") in bridge mode as of firmware version 3.1. In bridge mode it only supports WPA-TKIP (aka "WPA-Personal") which is not as secure as WPA2.
