This review is from: Vantec NexStar 2.5"/3.5" SATA to USB 2.0 & eSATA Hard Drive Dock -Model NST-D100SU
Pros: OK when it worked
Cons: Even when it was new, this thing was finniky with specific drives. It has never worked fine on every drive. Some worked OK, some click click click and then work fine straight on the motherboard connectors. First the Esata goes out on these things, Always, always. I have another Vantec enclosure that did the same thing. and also others have that problem. Then you can only use USB -it's an old tired routine. After a couple of years this thing will not accept any drive. I have also had the "Do you want to format this drive" error on a backup drive full of data. Then sometimes you turn it off then on and it works fine. And it will lock up your PC also, when it crashes. Tired of it. I will never buy one of these again.
Other Thoughts: Please don't keep putting "tech knowledge = high" , boys and girls, and then prove that it's below "low" simply by your comments. It's getting old.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Clear, sharp, multi-angle viewing. I really like the gloss screen. It has a slightly sharper image than my ASUS VW224U TN panel, about 3 years old but I have to admit, not night and day. Just a very very slight difference. I think it may have to do with the glossy panel. The subtle grain effect is gone. I am happy with this purchase as it is a decent % cheaper than it's competitor IPS panels. Matte screens may make the screen more viewable in a bright office or outdoor environment, but that comes with a sacrifice in clarity and color.
Cons: Magnetic base. This seems like a very poor engineering decision for Acer. There are a litany of items that you will destroy if they come into contact with the magnet, Read the Warning in the Manual - Hard drives, Thumb Drives, Flash Cards, Credit Cards, cell phones, laptops I can't imagine having my USB thumb drive around my computer!! - LOL!
I can also tell that the scroll is a little sloppier than my 2ms response time TN monitor, but not much.
Other Thoughts: Boys & Girls, unless you work in IT, or at least have a decent amount of experience with Computers, electronics, etc. etc. don't put "High" for Tech Knowledge. because 1. No one believes you. 2.- You appear very foolish, based on most of your comments.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Large Capacity, Inexpensive, Fast Drive, No Problems so far, Temps less than 40C
Cons: Needs Firmware Update. Parks head frequently with no solution -not certain if longevity will be affected
Other Thoughts: Formatted in Win 7, udated FW to CC4H with ISO/Dos CD bootdisk. Windows executable not effective after 2 attempts. I wish there was a head parking adjustment utility like WDIDLE for these. Please post if anyone has one. It always puzzles me how many posters with so little tech-knowedge post themselves as tech knowledge = high, then in the same review make comments like the following:
"The screws and cables in this OEM bare drive were missing."
"This drive only formatted to 1.8 TB" - or give a dumb explanation instead of binary vs decimal.
"brag about how little they paid for the drive", which will deter consumers, in general, so they must not like the product much or care that it sells at normal price.
-talk about how quickly the drive failed in one week, yet the ownership level indicated was more than one year
-speak of their vast knowledge and experience with Computers and components - all gained within the last 3 years or so....... too funny!!
