Good product

WD Red 6TB NAS Internal Hard Drive - 5400 RPM Class, SATA 6Gb/s, SMR, 256MB Cache, 3.5" - WD60EFAX
WD Red 6TB NAS Internal Hard Drive - 5400 RPM Class, SATA 6Gb/s, SMR, 256MB Cache, 3.5" - WD60EFAX

Overall Review: The drive was well packaged. Because the drive was shipped ground it was ice cold. Allowed 48 hours for the drive to acclimate to room temperature before powering on. l believe this alone greatly reduces the potential for mechanical drive failure.

No fan control! For a quiet home server look somewhere else...

SUPERMICRO X10SRM-F Micro ATX Server Motherboard R3 (LGA 2011) Intel C612
SUPERMICRO X10SRM-F Micro ATX Server Motherboard R3 (LGA 2011) Intel C612

Pros: If it wasn't for the lack of fan control this motherboard would be a 5 star. A good number of SATA ports, PCI M.2, 2400 DDR4 memory support , MicroATX, IPMI; just what you'd expect for a small footprint server.

Cons: Supermicro missed to boat when it comes to fan control with this motherboard. Basically, there is no control. Supermicro support says OEM fans are not supported because fan low speed is too low and will cause low fan sensor read errors. The sensor read error will cause all fans to cycle from slow to fast to slow again; over and over. There is no way to control this unless you set the fans to full speed. I am stuck with all my fans (4) spinning a 1500 RPM. It is my opinion fan speed should be governed by thermal output. My current configuration has 9, that's right, 9 thermal sensors monitoring temperature out of a total of 11 sensors. And all sensors are reporting temperatures below 30 C. So I have a very cool running machine. I am still investigating other fan speed control options; however, it should not be this difficult and Supermicro should fix this in firmware update. Not ideal for a home server because you can't make it quiet.

Overall Review: If you don't care about fan noise then this is a good entry level server. You will be happy with its performance. Performance wise, I'm very happy. LGA2011 configuration is NARROW which limits your choice in CPU coolers. Typical LGA2011 coolers are SQUARE and will not fit a NARROW. So make sure your LGA2011 cooler supports the NARROW option. I am using Noctua NH-U12DXi4 and works very well; however, you may have space problems with this cooler and MicroATX cases. Unless you have a lot of air flow through the case do not use a passive (fanless) CPU cooler; even if you are using a low watt Xenon E5-2620 V4 like me. You will not be able to dissipate the heat fast enough and will overheat.

Stopped working after 6 months.

Onkyo TX-NR777 7.2 Channel Network A/V Receiver
Onkyo TX-NR777 7.2 Channel Network A/V Receiver

Pros: When the unit was working it performed as expected.

Cons: None

Overall Review: After 6 months of use the unit displays "amp diag mode", cycles through speaker tests and then powers off. Called Tech Support and they weren't much help. Basically said you need to send the unit to one of our service centers. There is only ONE service center in all of Northwest America. Nothing in the town where I live that has two service centers that I've used before for other products. Onkyo doesn't have a good after purchase support network. You're really inconvenienced in shipping the unit to a service center. You have to do everything, call the service center, provide proof the product is in warranty and track it. There is nothing in place should something go wrong, like the unit get lost at the service center, destroyed, or comes back broken. I can only hope the service center does right. And I'm not saying service center won't do right, I just don't know. Onkyo is no where to make sure the process goes smoothly. Switch back to my Yamaha that's been working for 7+ years.

Junk - 4 times in a row...

OCZ Vertex 3 2.5" 90GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) VTX3-25SAT3-90G
OCZ Vertex 3 2.5" 90GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) VTX3-25SAT3-90G

Pros: None.

Cons: This drive failed three times all within weeks after receiving each replacement unit.

Overall Review: OCZ is a horrible company because they lack any idea of quality customer care. Their "ticket" support process is design to discourage customer from getting RMA #s and once you get an RMA# the ticket expires leaving you with no means of follow-up communications. Unless of course you open another ticket and re explain your problem. The forth drive they shipped me was a Vertex 4 SSD as opposed to a Vertex 3; however, the Vertex 4 was a refurbished drive. See how much OCZ dislikes customers! You purchased a new drive and in the end OCZ sends you someone else junk.

Failed after two days

Transcend 16GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model TS16GSDHC6
Transcend 16GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model TS16GSDHC6

Pros: Good price.

Cons: I bought this 16Gb card to work with my Canon HF-100 camcorder. I first notice some strangeness when reading the card on my PC; the directory listing showed strange file names. I gave it no mind, and initialized the card. Made another movie and pop’d the card into my card reader and my PC again showed garbled filenames; nevertheless, I was able to pull the movie I created with the Canon software. After 5 minutes of the card reader sitting idle Windows informed me it disconnected itself. I proceeded to low-level the card with the HF-100 and it gave a formatting error. At this point no device will read the card and the memory card is dead.

Overall Review: I bought this card for an upcoming wedding in July and have become spooked by the manufacturer's quality and don’t know if this card falls within the product's margin of failure or if there is an actual quality issue. I can't afford a card failure at the wedding.

Seller intentionally sent "compatible" memory

Ordered CT2K16G4S266M (32Gb) and was sent memory CT16G4S266M (32Gb). After questioning the seller they admitted to intentionally sending "compatible" memory, not what I ordered. I couldn't believe a seller would intentionally do this, but they did! This is fraud and filed a complaint with Newegg. I was issued a full refund and kept the memory. Fraud doesn't pay.
